The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 254

Abigail's words were utterly ridiculous. A laugh almost escaped me as I wondered why she would say such things.

Just then, Abigail reached out and gently touched my cheek. Her voice was soft, and she smiled faintly as she said, "Samuel, it was all just a game. I don't care about them at all. Everything I've done has been for you."

I remained perfectly calm, not even considering a reply.

After deceiving me for so long, how could she expect me to believe her with just a few insincere words? Did she take me for a fool who was blind to the truth?

Their actions had played out right before my eyes. How could I pretend not to see? How could I ever believe that nothing had happened?

Irritation swelled within me, and Abigail's expression only fueled my frustration.

Without thinking, I gently pushed her away, shook my head, and said quietly, "Abigail, you must be exhausted. Why don't you get some rest? You've been traveling and working tirelessly. You must be worn out."

I tried to change the subject, hoping to placate her.

But she didn't move. Instead, she wrapped her arms around me and rested her head against my chest like a fragile bird.

She whispered tenderly, "Samuel, your belief in me is the greatest comfort you can give. Don't worry. I promise we'll have a good life together. I won't let you down."

Her words felt like hollow platitudes. I didn't want to argue or explain anymore. I thought the rest of our days would be best spent in quiet detachment.

The alarm jolted me awake the next morning.

I opened my eyes to find Abigail still sleeping peacefully beside me. Her fair cheeks held a faint blush, and she wore a sweet expression in her slumber, exuding a gentle tenderness.

She kept me around to prolong her revenge and make me fall in love with her again, only to abandon me once more, just as cruelly as before. I had learned to endure it.

Taking a deep breath, I eased myself out of bed and tucked the blanket carefully around her before going to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Just as I was done, my phone rang. It was George.

A flicker of anxiety tightened in my chest. I feared that he was calling to tell me that Joshua had caused more trouble at the hospital.

But George's voice brought me relief.

He told me that he had visited Lana for me and that her doctor had confirmed that she was finally ready for surgery.
