Although Sophia was asking me a question, her tone was clearly full of anger toward Abigail.
She had called me to vent several times before whenever she saw Abigail and Joshua spending time together. She was furious on my behalf, feeling that I didn't deserve the torment I had to endure because of Abigail's betrayal.
Honestly, I was grateful to have someone like Sophia in my life, someone who cared about me. It reminded me that even though I was being tormented by Abigail, I could still feel a sense of being loved.
Hence, I was not angry at all. Instead, I found the whole situation rather amusing.
"Let me guess. It's Abigail and Joshua, right?"
I said it in an especially calm voice, but when Sophia heard it, she was astonished by my response.
"You… You already knew?"
I chuckled, then explained indifferently, "I went to the banquet tonight with my colleagues too."
Hearing this, Sophia fell silent for a long time.
"That's how Abigail is. You really don't need to let it bother you," I said casually, attempting to comfort her.
However, she still felt indignant.
She said, "I just don't understand why she does this. If she doesn't love you anymore, then why not end things? Why does she have to string both of you along, trying to cling to your feelings while keeping Joshua around her as well? This kind of behavior is utterly shameless!"
I didn't know how to respond to Sophia.
Sophia's tone softened. Even though I couldn't see her through the phone, I could imagine the gentle expression she must have had as she tried to comfort me.
"Samuel, I really hope you can live a happier and freer life. Don't let anyone keep you tied down."
"Alright. I understand."
After ending the call, her words lingered in my mind. She was right. I shouldn't care so much about what others think. What mattered most was living happily and freely.
After returning home, I took a shower and lay down comfortably. However, my phone wouldn't stop buzzing with notifications.
I took a glance at the screen and was mildly surprised. It was the latest celebrity gossip from the entertainment industry.
