The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 215

When I saw Abigail's flushed cheeks and the hurt in her eyes, for a moment, it felt like I was back in the days when Emily and I first started dating.

Back then, Abigail was sweet. She had been the quintessential girl next door. Every day, she'd hold my hand and playfully tease me, her laughter light and infectious.

I felt happier every time I looked at her. I genuinely believed that I was the luckiest guy in the world.

She treated me with such kindness. She couldn't stand to see me upset and always avoided arguments. Whenever we disagreed, she'd be the first to soften, wrapping her arms around me and making me forget why we even fought.

She used to say to me all the time that she'd never leave me.

"Samuel, let's get married right after graduation, okay?" she'd say, hugging my arm and gazing up at me with those bright eyes. Her voice was so gentle and filled with hope.

I smiled back at her, my heart full. "Sure. I promise I'll never leave you.

"But isn't getting married right after college a bit too soon?" I chuckled. "I should at least build a career first so I can give you the life you deserve."

Her cheeks flushed a lovely shade of pink, and she nodded earnestly. "Alright, I'll wait. As long as we're together, that's all that matters."

Thinking back to those times and the things she said filled me with a bittersweet warmth. I truly believed we'd be together forever.

But now, looking at her, drunk and clinging to my hand while mumbling my name, I felt a wave of nostalgia and sadness wash over me.

For a brief moment, it was like we were back when she loved me most.

She held my arm, leaning against me, soft and tender, like a kitten seeking comfort.

Without thinking, I reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair from her face.

"Here, drink some water. You'll feel better after you do."

She shook her head, slipping into that familiar, playful pout.

"No, I don't want to. I want you to feed me!"

Her childish demand left me at a loss.

I sighed and did as she asked, gently helping her sip the water.

But after she finished the glass, tears welled up in her eyes again. She looked so vulnerable as if I'd done something terribly wrong.

"Samuel, when can we go back to how things were? Back to when we first fell in love in college?"
