I was a little surprised by Rebecca's words. I had never imagined that this was what she thought about me.
I smiled and shook my head, quietly explaining to her, "Ms. Sims, I think you must have misunderstood."
"I've misunderstood?" Rebecca blinked and waited for me to continue.
I took a deep breath and said seriously, "I met Ms. Shepherd because of a partnership. I've only composed melodies and written lyrics for her songs. Apart from that, there is nothing else between us."
Rebecca looked at me, surprised. It could be because she saw how firm I was in making that statement. She asked, astonished, "Is… is that true?"
I smiled calmly. "Yes, Ms. Sims. I have no reason to lie to you concerning this matter."
The sureness in my voice allowed Rebecca to understand the meaning behind my words. She looked at me in surprise and couldn't help but shake her head.
"But…I often saw Blair losing herself in her thoughts, looking at a piece of paper by herself. Was that the song you wrote for her?"
I shook my head calmly. "Ms Sims, I think you've asked the wrong person for answers."
My words had already made things obvious enough. In my interactions with Blair, I had always been the passive one. I composed music for her because she trusted me, and that was it.
There had been no unusual interactions between Blair and I. Every time I saw her, I had always been distant and polite.
To be honest, I didn't know when Blair started to harbor affection for me, either.
Before this, whenever misunderstandings occurred between Abigail and me, she would only jab a finger into my face and scold me for making trouble where there had been none.
Even if I was able to prove that she was lying, she would never apologize to me, either. She would only look at me irritatedly and say that I was just like a woman scorned who only knew to cause trouble for her.
The words that I heard from her most often were, "I'm already tired, Samuel. Why can't you be more considerate of my feelings?
"I'm already so busy working in the company every day, but I still have to deal with your unfounded suspicions! We're married, shouldn't there be a fundamental level of trust between husband and wife?"
Abigail's words still rang in my ears until now.
Indeed, there should be a fundamental level of trust between husband and wife.
