The smile on Harriet's face froze immediately. She laughed awkwardly before shutting up and turning to leave.
I sat calmly on the couch and watched the TV for some time. I didn't know how much time had passed when I finally drifted off to sleep.
I dreamt of the time when I had just married Abigail. She was extremely busy with her work at that time and didn't have much time to rest at home. Despite that, she would still make time in her busy schedule to accompany me.
Sometimes I would make a meal for her and sit on the couch to wait for her until I fell asleep. However, every time Abigail came home, she wouldn't wake me up. Instead, she would cuddle up to me on the cramped couch and fall asleep as well beside me.
Every time that happened, I would feel incomparably happy. No matter how tired I was, as long as I could see that Abigail was by my side, all of my fatigue would disappear instantly.
I didn't know how much time had passed when I felt that someone had carefully snuck up beside me. I half-opened my eyes to take a look and realized that it was Abigail. She had returned.
She took off her coat and cuddled up to me on the couch, hugging me.
I saw how practiced her movements were and how she seemed determined to come closer to me. At that moment, I suddenly felt like we had returned to the time when we were still madly in love with each other.
I tried to get up and push her away, but she clung to me and refused to let go of my hand.
"Samuel, I want."
She was gentle, soft, and pliant, clinging to me and refusing to let go. I sank into her desire with no chance of escape at all.
The sweet and tender love she showed me made me feel like we had returned to the past. However, my last coherent line of thought reminded me that this wasn't normal. Her love for me had disappeared a long time ago.
"Don't do this. You're already pregnant with Joshua's child." I held on to the last remnants of my logic as I tried to push Abigail, who was trying to make a move on me, away.
However, Abigail remained determined as she clung to me, saying that she wouldn't let go of my hand no matter what.
However, she had rejected me coldly. She said that the company was in a critical period of growth. There were many things she had to do, and she couldn't make the time to take care of a child. She said that we could talk about it at a later date.
Those words still rang in my ears even today.
I looked at Abigail calmly and repeated the words that she had said to me then.
"Abigail, right now your company is in a critical period of growth. You have many things to do and won't be able to make the time to take care of a child. Let's discuss it at a later date."
When I finished speaking, I could feel Abigail's stunned gaze on me. She looked like she had never imagined that I would be able to say something like this.
I took the opportunity to push her away and returned to the guest room I slept in, locking the door behind me.
Abigail didn't come after me, probably surprised by my words.
