The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 148

Abigail's punishment for me never stopped.

At first, I still had the energy to argue with her, to demand who those men around her were.

But Abigail's explanations were always the same—that they were colleagues, friends, or business partners.

Beyond that, she didn't even bother to say another word to me.

I lost my appetite and couldn't sleep. Eventually, I collapsed at home and lay there for three days before anyone noticed.

When I woke up, I dragged my weakened body to the hospital by myself.

The moment I was diagnosed with a rare illness, my world crumbled into pieces.

I couldn't fathom what I had done to deserve this and why fate was punishing me so cruelly.

Maybe being with Abigail had been a mistake from the very beginning. Perhaps it was all just a cursed fate.

When I suggested a divorce, she clung to me desperately and screamed through her tears, "No! You'll be mine forever, Samuel! Don't even think about leaving me!"

Her furious words still echoed in my ears.

My heart twisted in agony, the pain suffocating. I clutched my chest, gasping for air, and slowly shuffled toward the door to get some relief.

Just then, Abigail returned home. Her face flickered with surprise when she saw me.

"You… Were you waiting to pick me up?"

I didn't know what to say because the lingering scent of her perfume betrayed her.

Her claim of being busy was a lie. She had to have been with Joshua, who was special to her.

But I knew it was all an illusion.

Whenever I reached the brink of despair, Abigail would offer me a taste of sweetness.

I felt like a pet she kept on a leash that she tossed a bone to when she was pleased and kicked aside when she wasn't.

I refused to fall into her trap again. I stood up and got ready to head back to my room.

But Abigail hurried to my side and grabbed my arm while pleading softly, "I can't manage everything by myself. You'll help me, won't you?"

Her gentle, innocent voice made my heart skip a beat. It was a tactic I knew all too well. I had grown used to it.

But, so what?

I gently pulled my hand from her grasp and shook my head. "Sorry, I can't help you. The doctor said that I shouldn't be around any smoke. If you can't manage it alone, then don't bother."
