The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 124

Abigail grew angrier as she spoke, her eyes filled with abject hatred for me.

"Someone like you should just be a loyal lapdog by my side and beg for crumbs!"

Her words left me trembling with humiliation as I despaired.

My departure back then was to give her company a chance to rise again from the ashes, to give her the respite she needed to get through the calamity.

It seemed that I had used the wrong approach.

Regardless, even if I regretted it, would she believe me if I explained things to her? She would probably suspect that I had ulterior motives and that I had only said that to use her.

From my perspective, she was akin to a terrible monster. Meanwhile, from her perspective, I was just a conman full of lies.

Neither of us believed what the other said. Whatever little bit of love remaining in this marriage had long been worn out from our mutual torment.

She was no longer the girl I'd loved deeply in the past, and I was no longer the man she'd loved with all her heart. At this point, things were beyond salvation between us.

Yet, Abigail seemed to revel in the pleasure of tormenting me. With a faint smile, she looked at me mockingly and said, "Samuel, your pathetic schemes only make you look like a complete jerk. You disgust me!"

I took a deep breath, then grabbed her hand and asked slowly, "Will you believe me if I told you the truth?"

"Stop lying, Samuel. What reason could you possibly have? You did it to avoid hardships. You only stayed by my side for my money, and after my family was ruined, you heartlessly dumped me! You're just a selfish bastard!"

I had known from the start that my explanation would only sound like I was making excuses. However, when I heard her response, I was immediately overwhelmed by a sense of sadness and helplessness.

She gripped my chin and said mockingly, "Samuel, you're so full of lies! Even God couldn't bear the injustice and punished you with this torturous disease! This is your karmic retribution! You reap what you sow!"

Her words cut deeply into my soul like a sharp knife. Although I was mentally prepared for this, I was still devastated by her vicious remarks.

I couldn't do anything as I watched her turn around and walk away. All hopes of explaining myself had been crushed just like that in an instant.
