Back when Abigail and I first got together, I had stood up for her. A few guys had developed crushes on her and were constantly loitering outside her dorm, harassing her. I couldn't stand it, so I'd confronted them and given them a beating they'd never forget.
To my surprise, the next day, they brought a whole gang and cornered me in an alley. They beat me up so badly that I lost consciousness.
It was Abigail who had rushed me to the hospital. She had cried so hard, as if the world was ending, while she held my hand tightly and promised never to let me get hurt again.
But now, the person who'd hurt me the most was her.
It was almost laughable. The care she used to give me had long been transferred to Joshua.
She was completely consumed with him, offering him all the support she could and throwing all her resources behind him. She'd even disregard what other people said and push him into the spotlight, making sure that he became the next superstar.
But she still wouldn't let go of me and marry Joshua.
What was her deal? Was it that important for her to keep me around just to torture me?
We'd been married for so long, so she should be sick of that by now. She should be done with torturing me and have had enough. So, why wouldn't she just let me go and start a new life with Joshua?
I couldn't figure it out. I didn't understand what she wanted.
I seemed to have dozed off because the next thing I knew, I was jolted awake by Blair's call.
I groggily grabbed the phone and mumbled, "Who is it?"
His eyes were black and blue, and blood was still smeared on the corner of his lips. His bruises were clearly visible in the photo, and the caption read, "The love-hate entanglement between the self-made man, the wife, and the lover."
Under the post was a flood of comments trashing me.
They seemed to have forgotten that I was Abigail's legal husband. No matter how many fans Joshua and Abigail have, he was still just a despised third wheel.
I scrolled down and saw a video posted by Joshua's sister, Joanna. Her eyes were red and swollen, clearly from crying. She wiped her tears as she angrily accused me of being heartless and cruel.
"Dear followers and fans, Samuel has crossed the line. He's jealous of Joshua's business dealings with Abigail, so he went after him and beat him up!"
