"What?" Charlie retorted. "You want me to be fair, don't you? In that case, I need to be fair too! I need to ask you to be fair to those whom you have been treated unfairly. Why don't you accept it?"
He then turned to Porter and added, "Oh, by the way, Porter, while you're investigating Tody's history, find out if he has hurt the innocent family of his enemies and competitors. We'll let him have a taste of his own medicine. If he has killed someone's wife, we'll kill his. If he has killed someone's son, we'll kill his. Fair enough, right? That's what he asked for, after all."
"Yes, sir!" Porter affirmed, "Don't worry, Mr. Wade. I'll investigate thoroughly."
Tody's face turned ashen when hearing this, and the muscles on his face and limbs were throbbing violently.
Among the group of people tied up together, one man spoke up, "Sir, this son of a bitch kidnapped my friend's son many years ago just to steal his goods. My friend gave the things to him, but this bastard killed my friend and his son! They knew about this!"
Charlie nodded and complimented, "You did a good job. Are you the boss or the second-in-command?"
"I'm the second-in-command, sir," the man hurriedly answered.
Charlie turned to Angus and instructed, "Angus, remember his face. After we verify the case, instead of 75%, charge him 70%. We'll give him a discount."
"Roger that, Mr. Wade!" Angus replied. "I'll keep that in mind."
The man who spoke was overjoyed as he hadn’t expected to get a 5% reduction easily by confessing. A 5% discount was a huge relief considering the gang's monthly income of millions of dollars.
"Tsk tsk." Charlie clicked his tongue and pretended to be confused. "You put me in a difficult position. You wanted me to be fair in the first place. I gave you my offer, but you rejected it. You can't go back on your words, can you? You'll be embarrassing yourself in front of them."
Tody slapped himself repeatedly on the face and bellowed, "It's my fault! It's all my fault! From now on, I'll accept all of your offers!"
"No way." Charlie waved his hand. "You said you want me to be fair. I made an exception for you, but now you said you don't want it. Not only are you going back on your word, but you're also wasting my time. What if all of them did what you did, came up with some idea they had, and regretted it after hearing my counteroffer? What will others think of me as a leader? Stop wasting my time on you guys!"
Tody trembled in fear and fell to his knees. His hands were tied behind his back, so he desperately bowed forward and pleaded, "Please forgive me, please... I was naive and stupid back then. Please forgive me."
"Impossible." Charlie waved him off. "I'll give you two choices. First, we'll do as you say, fairness, but I'm not sure if killing your family is enough to close your case. After all, you've done a lot of horrible things. I don't know how many lives you have to pay for it. So, I'm going to give you one more choice—your life. I'll accept your apology with death. I can forgive you for what you’ve done after you die."
