The Man in Power After Being Married into Her Family novel Chapter 5925

Upon seeing Angus's nervous expression, Charlie, who had been silent all this time, immediately realized that the increasingly closer sound of motorcycle engines outside might be coming for Angus.

At this point, Janus realized that Angus might have gotten into big trouble, so he asked sternly, “Angus, tell me the truth. Who have you offended?”

When Angus saw that he could not conceal the matter any longer, he had no choice but to explain, “Uncle Janus, these people who are here are all from a new gang in New York…”

Janus exclaimed, “Did you borrow money illegally?”

Angus quickly explained, “No, Uncle Janus! They just took over Oskiatown a couple of days ago, and now, they're going door to door collecting protection money. It's three thousand US dollars a month, and if you can't pay, they'll beat you up and threaten to smash your shop.”

Janus furrowed his brow and asked, “Hasn't Oskiatown always been managed by the Oskian gangs? It's been three hundred US dollars a month for protection fees for years. Why was it suddenly taken away by others?”

Angus sighed helplessly and said, “The Oskian gangs had a big fight with them last week and suffered heavy losses. Don Daves has already surrendered and handed Oskiatown over to them…”

Janus was slightly surprised and then asked him, “What's the background of this new gang? Asking for three thousand dollars a month right off the bat is too much, isn't it?”

Angus said indignantly, “That’s right! We and the other shops around here work from dawn till dusk, paying rent, wages, and bribes everywhere because we are all illegal immigrants. After working so hard, we barely make a few thousand US dollars, and now, they are demanding three thousand US dollars. It's as if we are working hard just for them!”

Angus said dejectedly, “I did, but calling the police didn't help much. You know how it is in New York. The police's main focus is in the wealthy areas. When I called to report this matter, they just came by to go through the motions and then told me they couldn't find anyone.”

Janus said angrily, “This is completely unacceptable!”

Angus said helplessly, “I called to report and told the police who said they'd come again. The police said there weren't enough officers to watch them and told me to call 911 immediately when I saw them, but what's the use? If they really come armed, I'd be dead before the police even arrive.”

As he spoke, the roar of motorcycle engines had reached the front door of the roast goose shop. Angus became even more nervous and hurriedly said to Janus and Charlie, “Uncle Janus, Mr. Wade, please go upstairs quickly!”
