Danny, who weighed more than two hundred pounds, never would have dreamt that the police would come looking for him one day.
Danny had always felt that his mother was a person with great ability. She had a way to make a lot of money in the United States, and he only needed to exchange her US dollars to Oskian dollars in Oskia and then enjoy prosperity and wealth.
He did not bother to worry about whether his mother’s money came from the right means or whether their own private exchange of foreign currency was illegal or a crime.
So, he asked the police with a surprised expression, “What do you mean by that? What do you mean when you say I’m suspected of money laundering? What money did I launder?”
The police said coldly, “We have sufficient evidence to prove that all the assets you and your brother own are illegal gains obtained through illegal currency exchange! We also have evidence to prove that you’re laundering money for an offshore criminal organization!”
“What?!” Danny said with a look of disdain, “Every penny of our family’s money is money that my mother earned through her hard work. How can it become illegal income when you mention it?!”
The police officer frowned and asked him, “Don’t you have any understanding of the law?”
Danny immediately said loudly, “What don’t I understand? I’m a law-abiding citizen! I don’t gamble, cheat, steal, or rob! So, why are you saying that I’m breaking the law?!”
The police officer knew that he would not be able to communicate with Danny, so he said to his subordinates, “Take him away! Also, go in and see if Elias Yorker and Freddie Obery are here as well. If they are, bring them back for interrogation!”
Several police officers quickly rushed into the villa and brought Elias and Freddie, who were dumbfounded and bewildered, out within five minutes.
Freddie was Martha’s husband. When they were penniless, Martha had gone to the United States with someone, and he had stayed at home to raise their two children. Later, Martha had made a lot of money and begun to despise him more and more. She had eventually forced him to change their two children’s last names from Obery to Yorker.
The eldest daughter-in-law was unrelenting and cried out as she said, “Don’t bully me just because I’m a woman who doesn’t know anything! I will not let you take my family members away in my presence today!”
The police officer who was in charge said with a serious expression, “Let me tell you, the three of them are now suspected of money laundering, and according to the evidence that we have, they are involved in a serious case that involves a very large amount of money. According to the provisions of the criminal law, they will be sentenced to at least five and up to ten years in prison!”
“It’s not just that, but according to the evidence that we have, all the deposits, cash, houses, and cars under their names have all been obtained illegally without exception. These assets will be seized in accordance with the law. If you or any other family members of theirs transfer these illegal proceeds at this stage, according to the provisions of the criminal law, you will be knowingly concealing or transferring the proceeds of crime, and you can be sentenced to short-term detention or control of up to three years in prison!”
“If the circumstances are serious, you will be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of more than three years or less than seven years!”
“So, I’m warning you to cooperate with our investigation! Otherwise, you’ll only be doing yourself a disservice!”
