The instant Gopher saw Stephanie, all of his hopes were crushed.
At that moment, he knew full well that his fantasies were shattered, and that he would surely die!
There was just one thing that he didn't understand. How did Charlie find out that h e would target Stephanie?
Out of reflex, he asked Charlie, "So, you losing at the casino twice was just an act?!"
Charlie snickered. "Of course. How could I forget the bait when I'm trying to fish?"
Gopher was shocked. Then, he frowned and asked, “I don’t understand... You... You weren’t in Canada, so how did you know all this?! This is our organization's internal secret. Only a handful of people in the organization know about it! And none of them know you, so they couldn't possibly tell you!"
Claudia scoffed. "Gopher, did you think I was oblivious to the things you were doing? You had someone mark Mrs.
Lewis's door. Of course I'd find out! I also knew what that mark meant. It was me who informed Mr. Wade, all for him to come to Canada and protect Stephanie!"
Gopher’s eyes widened and he glared at Claudia. He barked through gritted teeth, "S o it was you! You only learnt that I've killed your family today. When you returned from your disappearance with your face all burnt, I pitied you and thought of letting you off the hook. To think you've repaid my kindness by taking revenge on me! Had I known, I would've killed you with my own hands!”
Gopher's eyes widened. "Since you already knew, why did you have the audacity to return to Vancouver? Were you trying to take revenge on me?"
Tears streamed down Claudia's face as she gritted her teeth, furious. “Of course! I only returned to find a chance to kill you! At one point, I strapped foil bags filled with gasoline around my body everyday and carried a knife and lighter in my pocket. I wanted to break the foil bags at the right time to cover myself in gasoline and light myself up to take you down with me!"
Then, Claudia glanced at Stephanie before turning back to Gopher. "But you were lucky! Whenever you appeared before me during that period of time, you were always there to see Stephanie. Stephanie and Mrs. Lewis have always been so kind to me.
They were worried that I might do something rash or be bullied, so they wouldn't let me meet you alone. Otherwise, I would've burned you a long time ago!"
