She stopped hesitating. Nodding, she said firmly, 'Then, I’ll give him a call then.”
Meanwhile...
On the ground floor of an Italian restaurant on George Street.
Gopher was sitting at a large table, personally supervising a few of his subordinates who were counting money with two money detectors.
Their gang pays their subordinates once a week, and this evening was payday.
Most of the active members were the kind o f people who would get drunk in the heat of the moment, without caring to save any cash for rainy days. They would squander all of their money immediately after they received it, only to suffer hard to make ends meet as they wait for the next payday.
The entire gang consisted of more than seven hundred people, and the average weekly per capita salary was no less than a thousand Canadian dollars. The cost of the weekly payroll was nearly as high as a million Canadian dollars.
As Gopher watched the piles of cash being packed into small envelopes, frustration surged in him and he muttered disgruntledly, "How the hell is this sevenhundred subordinates? It feels like I'm feeding more than seven hundred fucking mouths!"
Then, he asked one of the men, "Hey, Pete. How much money are Rich and I getting this week?"
The other party glanced at the numbers on the form and replied, "Your and Mr. Rich’s payment comes to a total of one hundred and ten thousand Canadian dollars."
“Only one hundred and ten thousand dollars...?" The amount disappointed Gopher somewhat.
Though he held the position of the second i n command for the time being, the newly promoted boss only gave him a measly 10% of the share.
After all, he wasn’t Italian and he was originally a driver. His position could only b e considered as a nomination, rather than something he earned, because he made the plan to take out Claudia's family. Getting 10 % of the share was already considered a huge promotion.
"That's great!" The man was ecstatic. "The auction will treat us well if we keep providing them with high quality goods. Otherwise, they might slowly blacklist us."
Gopher nodded. He muttered through clenched teeth, "Seems we're forced to rely on Stephanie to turn things around..."
Then, he asked, "What's going on at the casino?’’
The other party replied, "Many of our regulars have turned to the casino opened b y the Oskian gang. I heard their service is excellent. Not only have they redecorated the venue, but they also bought a few Maybachs that serve as a pick-up car for the more affluent customers. The customers can also sleep and dine there if they decide to stay for a long time."
"In addition, that casino hired many Eastern European women to accompany the affluent customers. If the customers lose all their money from gambling, the casino would offer free chips for the customer to make a comeback. The loan's very flexible, and even their subordinates have authority to give customers chips on the spot..."
He paused before adding, "Because of all these, Mr. Gopher, many powerful customers are pouring into that casino. They didn’t care if they lost money. The casino services are so excellent that they're still happy even when they lose. It's baffling! Our casino's nothing compared to the Oskian casino. We have to keep up with the times. If this continues, all of our customers will turn away from us."
