Charlie replied with a hum, went back into the room t o change his clothes, and then came out to the garage. Jacob was already eagerly waiting in the passenger seat.
Charlie got into the car and asked him, "Father, are you really going to have dinner with Mr. Bay tonight?"
Jacob waved his hand. "No. I have no intentions to dine with him. That guy has done nothing but constantly shower me with flattery, trying hard to suck up to me. I'm bored of it and I am too lazy to entertain him."
Charlie then asked curiously, "Then, what are you up t o now?"
Jacob hurriedly said, "Just now, Aunt Matilda informed me via WhatsApp that she seemed to have a fever. Just so happens that Paul has gone on a business trip again, and your Aunt Matilda is home alone with no one taking care of her. I was just thinking of buying some medicine and food and sending it to her."
Charlie was taken aback, and he immediately asked," Are you going to Aunt Matilda's house?" "Yes." Jacob nodded and blurted out, "Can you please
quickly send me there, and then we will each go our own way."
Charlie didn't think too much about it, so he nodded his head and replied, "Where is Aunt Matilda's house?
I will take you there first.”
Jacob immediately handed his phone to Charlie and said, “Here, this is the location. Melon Villa District." 3
Charlie glanced at it. This location was in the same direction as Jasmine's house, and it was not too far away. So, he started the car and drove out of the house with Jacob.
On the way, Jacob directed Charlie to the drugstore to buy some fever medicine before directing him to drive to the front door of an authentic local delicacy restaurant. 2
As soon as the car stopped at the entrance of the restaurant, Jacob hurriedly said, "Charlie, wait for me i n the car!”
After saying that, he hastily opened the door.
The main reason why Charlie did this was to prevent anything untoward from happening between his father-in-law and Matilda.
Charlie wasn't worried about Matilda's character. He was more worried about his father-in-law's determination to suppress his sexual desires during the time he tried to help Matilda overcome her sickness. He was also worried about Matilda's weakened will to resist his father-in-law's advancements. 1
What if his father-in-law was taking care of her and suddenly had sexual intentions? Matilda, who was sick, and emotionally dependent on him would thus b e more easily swayed by his actions. If his father-in-law were to be more proactive and make a move, in the worst-case scenario, Matilda might just give into his sexual advancements.
Although Charlie also hoped that Jacob would one day be able to marry Matilda, who was the love of his life, Jacob still had yet to divorce Elaine. If he truly cheated in the marriage and was found out by Elaine, the family would be in chaos, and it would jeopardize Charlie and Claire’s peaceful days as well.
Therefore, Charlie could only hope that Matilda would immediately recover after drinking this bowl of millet porridge.
In that case, even if his father-in-law were to make a move, he wouldn't be able to get the chance to do anything...
