480.Chapter 480
Isabelle stared at Fletcher for a long moment before suddenly smiling. “Father, you’re plotting something so grand, yet you don’t inform Mother and Jacqueline, but you invite me to join. Aren’t you afraid that I might ruin your plans?”
“You’re very clever,” Fletcher said with a smile. “Being an illegitimate daughter doesn’t mean you lack intelligence. Your mother and Jacqueline, despite their high status, are utterly foolish. My grand scheme has no need for fools. “Isabelle, my dear daughter, you should understand, shouldn’t you? You have no other choice.”
Before returning to Hasen City, Isabelle had been arranged by Fletcher to assume the identity of a legitimate daughter, specifically the third heiress of the Henderson family. Isabelle had already been erased under the pretext of her death due to illness.
From the moment Isabelle heard about this, she knew Fletcher had ulterior motives. This so–called invitation to join his grand scheme was nothing more than a notification from Fletcher.
If Isabelle refused, her current identity would be immediately revoked. Just as Fletcher had erased her original identity, he could easily erase her as well. Thus, Fletcher claimed she had no choice.
Isabelle clenched her fists under her sleeves, her fingernails almost digging into the flesh of her palms, yet her face remained expressionless.
However, when a hint of threat and malice flickered in Fletcher’s eyes, Isabelle smiled and said, “Father, everything I have today is because of you. Since you have the ambition to achieve great things, of course, I must assist you wholeheartedly. After all, only when you become the most powerful will I be able to benefit from your success, won’t I?”
“You’re absolutely right. I knew I hadn’t misjudged you. You are indeed intelligent and perceptive, Fletcher said.
‘If I weren’t intelligent and perceptive, I would have died in the Henderson family long ago, Isabelle thought to herself. “But that’s fine. Fletcher is a venomous snake, and as his daughter, it remains to be seen who is the more poisonous one is between two snakes.‘
In Hasen City, undercurrents were swirling. The Henderson family was in turmoil, and the Stonor family was equally restless.

Today was the day Sophie was visiting home.
“Sophie, we’re here. Hurry up and get down,” Caleb said with a beaming smile as he helped Sophie out of the carriage at the Duke’s estate.
Gabriel and others were already waiting at the entrance. Seeing Gabriel there, Sophie let out a slight sigh of relief. After all, if her father didn’t even want to see her when she came home, it would mean he had truly given up on her.
Fortunately, the outcome was a bit better than she had anticipated. As long as her father was still willing to see her, she would have a chance to restore her status.
Once she became the heiress of the Duke’s estate again, the Marquis’s estate would naturally no longer dare to humiliate her, especially Adeline, who had been humiliating Sophie for being a bastard daughter these past few days.
‘Does Adeline really think I have no temper at all? She’s just bullying me because of her status. I’ve had that kind of noble status, too, Sophie thought.
The posture of looking up at her father was one of the ways Sophie resembled her mother the most. Coupled with her eyes, which were said to be identical to her mother’s, and a touch of affectionate longing in her gaze, it was her most useful trick. Gabriel stood on the steps and looked down at her. This glance indeed made him pause for a moment. “Fine, go inside and
“Father, I’ll accompany you inside.” Sophie immediately stepped forward and walked beside Gabriel, smiling brightly. “Father, I’ve missed you so much these past few days. I didn’t realize how good you are to me until I got married. You are truly the best person in the world to me.”
Gabriel seemed to let out a cold laugh. “You realize this now, but it’s too late.”
Sophie said, “It’s not too late. Father, I know you still care for me. Although I’m married now, that doesn’t stop me from coming back to take care of you. Look. These are the gifts I’ve specially chosen.
“They’re all medicinal herbs that are good for your health, and the coffee you love the most. I’ll have them open them for you later. If you like them, Caleb and I can send you more in the future.”
“Sophie is right. Uncle, oh no, Lord Gabriel, since we’re family, you mustn’t be polite with Sophie and me,” Caleb said with a foolish grin that somehow still managed to look smug.
After all, Gabriel and the others had tried desperately to stop him from marrying Sophie, but in the end, Sophie had become his concubine.
‘What’s mine is mine, Caleb thought smugly, not noticing the sinister look Anthony was giving him from his wheelchair. The only one with a calm expression was Benedict, who quietly observed his two younger brothers before his cold gaze finally settled on Sophie. ‘I will have my revenge one day, he wondered.
Even Matthew, walking ahead, kept glancing back at Caleb with a clearly unwelcoming look.
