"Aureon Suncrest, you should kneel and surrender while you still can. Maybe I'll let you live. Violet isn't even the powerful backer I warned you about."
Jared's confidence had returned in full.
"She's only a friend. I have plenty of friends in the celestial realm who are just as strong. If the person truly standing behind me showed up, you wouldn't still be standing there talking."
Mr. Sanders had not come. If he had, Jared had no doubt that everyone here would already be dead. One look from that man would have been enough to erase body and soul alike.
Aureon threw back his head and laughed. "You really are insane. You want me to kneel to you? Dream on!"
Then he moved.
Gold exploded beneath his feet, and his body became a streak of light shooting straight at Violet. He accelerated beyond what ordinary eyes could follow, dragging a scorching trail behind him like a comet across the night or a bolt of golden lightning splitting the heavens.
The afterimage lingered in the air, so hot and sharp it looked as though his speed had burned a wound into space itself.
A golden divine sword had appeared in his hand.
Dense divine sigils crawled over the blade, each blazing with harsh light and releasing waves of terrifying divine power.
This was the Celestial Emperor's Sovereign Blade, the supreme artifact passed down through the Celestial High Temple for tens of thousands of years, tempered by the bloodline and divine power of generation after generation of Celestial Emperors.
Fully activated in Aureon's hand, its edge tore black fissures through space. The void gave off a piercing whine wherever it passed, almost like something crying out in pain.
Violet did not move.
The golden blast tore at Violet's hair and snapped her dress behind her. Her feet, however, never shifted. She stood against the oncoming force with the permanence of something rooted far deeper than the valley itself.
She merely raised her purple longsword and held it horizontally before her.
Her violet eyes were perfectly calm. They reflected the approaching gold and Aureon's distorted expression, but gave nothing back. Her breathing remained even. Her wrist never shook. The stillness around her was more unsettling than any display of force.
Boom!
Gold and violet collided.
For one instant, it felt as though the entire world shuddered.
Black Abyss Valley groaned under the impact. Loose stone rained from both cliffs and struck the ground in a dense barrage.
A shock wave burst outward from the crossing blades and swept across the valley like a tsunami. Broken rocks were torn from the ground, spun through the air, and smashed against the cliffs with heavy thuds.
The kneeling Demonic Cultivators and surviving celestial cultivators were thrown into chaos. Some were rolled several times across the ground by the force. Others screamed as flying debris struck arms, shoulders, and backs. No one near the center could keep a stable posture, and the valley floor itself seemed to buck beneath them.
Gold and violet light twisted together and erupted like a two-colored sun, flooding even the darkest corners of the valley and swallowing every shadow.
Aureon was driven backward several steps.
Every footfall punched a deep print into the ground, cracks spreading outward from each one like spiderwebs.
His sword hand had gone numb. His right arm trembled faintly. The Sovereign Blade hummed under the recoil while the divine sigils across it flashed wildly, as though struggling to digest the force that had just slammed into it.
