She had seen many gossips, but she had never seen a man with such a mean mouth.
Alan had buried his head in her neck. "I'm your man, so if anyone says anything bad about my woman, I should teach him a lesson."
"I suppose there are a lot of people here who insult me, so are you going to beat them one by one?" Olive said with a smile. In fact, she didn't care about this gossip, but her parents had many acquaintances in the neighborhood, so it must have caused them a lot of trouble, and she felt very guilty.
"In the future, if I meet a man who liked to talk nonsense, I'll hit him." Alan snorted coldly, and he felt that it was he who deserved to be beaten, for not protecting her.
Olive glared at him. "If you fight again, I won't bring you home."
Alan said with a smile. "It doesn't matter, as I'll come to your house by myself. Anyway, I already know where it is."
Well, there's nothing she could do about him.
This man was just awesome.
When Olive opened the door, the three people sitting in the living room looked up at her.
"Darling, you're back at last." Chloe ran over to Olive with her arms outstretched, but when Chloe saw the man behind Olive, her smile looked stiff. "Why are you here?"
Chloe didn't seem to welcome Alan and stood at the door refusing to let him in.
Olive awkwardly nudged Chloe with her hand. "Chloe, don't do that."
Chloe pinched Olive's arm, saying through gritted teeth. "You woman, don't you know what reserve is? You're supposed to look reserved, okay? You were so eager to bring him back that he thought he was the only one who would marry you, and then he must have bullied you."
Alan said with a smile. "It's not that she will only marry me, but that I will only marry her."
But Chloe didn't believe him and she just snorted coldly. "You just speak sugared words."
Alan answered. "I'm just being honest."
"Well, Chloe, since he's here, let him come in and have dinner with us." Mr. Steele said from the side, just for his daughter's sake.
Chloe let Alan in reluctantly.
There were many delicious dishes on the table, just waiting for Olive to come back for dinner.
Mr. Steele took out a bottle of good old wine from the cupboard. "Mr. Hoyle, shall we have a drink?"
Alan said with a smile. "Ok, Dad, if you want to drink it, I'll drink it with you."
Nowadays young people said "like" or "love" to each other every day, but few of them could live a good life together.
But the man before their eyes looked quite composed.
Shouldn't they trust him once?
Mr. Steele didn't talk much at first, but after a few drinks, he began to talk slowly.
"Mr. Hoyle, Olive is our darling, even though we're not rich. Although Olive's life was not particularly good as a child, we're not willing to let her suffer. However, since Olive met you and returned to Luo City from Jiangcheng, these five years have been really hard for Olive because I was lame and didn't make much money, and her mother was not well and was often ill, while Olive had to raise Annie. This, Olive has worked almost day and night for the family these past few years. On weekends, all the other girls were dressed up to go on dates, but Olive was either working overtime or working part-time as she worked like a man to support her family."
"Dad, why do you say that?" Olive was a little annoyed.
"It'll make your Dad feel better if you let him talk." Mrs. Steele held her daughter back because what Mr. Steele had said was exactly what she wanted to say.
"Dad, it's my fault since I didn't find them sooner. It is my fault, so I punish myself with a glass of wine." Alan's heart ached. He knew Olive had suffered a lot, but when he heard what her father said, it hurt him even more because they were the family that had seen her through and stood by her through these difficult five years. So he couldn't feel as deeply as they did. A full glass of wine ran down his throat and seared his heart. "Dad, Mom, you can rest assured that I will take care of Olive, Annie and you in the future and I'm sure I'll be good to you."
Mr. Steele shook his head. "We don't need you to be good to us, as you just need to be good to Olive. Because of you, she refused all advances from men. Even though we all thought the man was wonderful, she wouldn't even try to accept him, as she never wanted to be in a relationship. So now, Alan, you know what you've done to her."
