The Indifferent Ex-Husband: Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate novel Chapter 748

“I…” Kent faltered, unsure how to continue.

His hesitation made Sophia’s heart sink. Instinctively, she connected it to the way Brandon’s attitude had changed, both today and before.

“He’s keeping something from me, isn’t he?” she asked quietly. Her tone remained calm, but Kent could sense a subtle distance, different from the warmth she used to have.

“Ms. Yearwood?” Kent looked at her, about to explain, but Sophia spoke first.

“Kent, you’ve been with Brandon for years. You probably know everything that’s happened between us, don’t you?”

Kent wasn’t sure where she was going with this, but he nodded. “Yes.”

“What was our relationship like before?” Sophia asked.

He hesitated. “You two got along well. Very loving.”

Sophia gave him a look. “Kent, that’s not true.”

He fell silent.

He’d only said it because Brandon insisted they keep up the story that they were still married, hoping to avoid more complications.

Sophia seemed to pick up on his thoughts.

“I know Brandon and I have been divorced for years.” Her voice was soft.

Kent’s mouth opened, but no words came out.

“We already talked about it last night,” Sophia continued, “so you don’t have to cover for him.”

Sophia said nothing, waiting for him to finish.

“The reason I said this trip wasn’t necessary for Mr. Crawley,” Kent explained, “is because the whole trip was for you. I didn’t mean you aren’t important—on the contrary, you’re so important to him that he was willing to give up Aurora Wharf, the very heart of Starlight Group, just to keep you safe from interference.”

Sophia frowned, confused. “What do you mean?”
