Wynter was completely thrown by Dalton's sudden move. She gave a slight shake of her head, trying to clear the haze, but the heat from his palm was too hot for her to ignore.
"Wait…" Her breath came quicker now, as though she'd fallen into a mire, and each effort to pull free proved useless.
Dalton looked at her with a smile, his fingers casually tugging at his collar. A button gave way, landing on the floor with a soft clink. The dark shirt against his pale neck only intensified that cold, almost ascetic allure.
Any woman would have caved right to Dalton, who was more handsome, powerful, and rich than any other man.
But in Wynter's eyes, all she could see was his Adam's apple and the faint veins beneath his skin. A strange thirst, a craving she couldn't suppress, rose in her throat.
His scent wasn't cologne, yet it was addictive. Wynter couldn't help but want to taste him.
Her hands clenched slightly, and her throat felt parched. Paired with the heat he radiated, she finally gave in. Reaching out, she grabbed his collar, her gaze darkening. As her soft lips brushed against that familiar taste, her nose was filled with his presence.
Too greedy for that feeling, she misjudged her strength and bit down a little too hard.
Dalton let out a hiss through his teeth, his brows drawing together briefly. But instead of pulling away, he leaned in even closer, tightening his arm around her waist. His flawless face drew the tension in the air to its peak.
Wynter looked utterly lost in it, her expression one of pure indulgence. Even the air around them seemed to heat up.
Dalton deepened the kiss. He was usually aloof and refined, but now, he was nothing but assertive.
Wynter could feel the tingling from his lips spreading through her entire body.
At this point, Dalton didn't intend to give her any room to retreat or pull away from him at all.
With his right arm around her waist, he slowly guided her toward the bed and gently laid her down. Their lips never parted, the heat between them enough to set her whole body ablaze.
Teeth on her earlobe, he slowly put his weight on her and whispered warmly, "My turn now, my fiancee."
He knew exactly where her weak spots were.
As the sound of his breath by her ear grew heavier, a searing heat seemed to burn right through Wynter. His hand slid to her collar, slowly unbuttoning her shirt.
Wynter slowly closed her eyes, abandoning the last of her clarity, wrapping her arms around his neck. She looked fragile, like a porcelain doll about to break.
Even her usually pale lips had taken on a soft flush, and with the pink at the corners of her eyes, it made her look all the more ravishing. The tear-shaped beauty mark at the corner of her eye only added to her allure.
No one could resist her—not even a man like Dalton. What Wynter didn't realize was just how tempting she was to others. She was like a siren, luring people in and making them want to surrender at her feet.
As more buttons came undone, only a single layer of clothing remained.
Dalton pressed in closer. His slender fingers slid slowly downward from her chest, while his other hand gently combed through her hair. He had no intention of stopping.
Wynter could feel his teasing breath drawing closer and closer, until his hand was about to reach the edge of her most sensitive spot…
But just then, a loud kick at the door shattered the moment.
"Oof! Boss, open up! I need to talk to you!" Wolf was outside, banging on the door. "Boss, what are you doing in there? Why aren't you opening the door?"
The sound snapped Wynter out of her daze. "Coming!" she called out before shifting slightly, signaling for Dalton to get off her.
Dalton looked up lazily. "Having a kid around is such a pain." He stood up, his face calm, though the subtle shift in his expression showed his irritation at being interrupted.
Wynter lowered her gaze and began buttoning her shirt. Once she stood up, she wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered, "I like doing it, too, but not now. Button your shirt."
Only after Dalton did as she asked did she turn and walk toward the door.
The noise outside hadn't stopped. The banging had shifted into full-on ramming. "Boss! Why haven't you opened the door already?"
As soon as Wynter opened it, a figure came flying in and landed with a thud on the floor.
It was Wolf. He had been mid-ram when the door suddenly opened, and ended up crashing straight in. Fortunately, the suite was carpeted, or that landing might've cost him half his life.
"Ow, Boss… that really hurt." Wolf groaned, rubbing his right shoulder.
Wynter bent down to pull him up.
At the doorway, another figure remained—Driscoll. "Ms. Quinnell, this young man insisted on seeing you. He said it was urgent and that you were his boss. That's why I quickly brought him up."
Wynter nodded. "Thank you, Mr. Maynerd. I forgot to mention him. Please don't tell anyone about our relationship. It's enough that you know."
Driscoll replied in a low voice, "Understood. I wouldn't even tell my wife."
With a polite nod, he turned and left. Wynter closed the door behind him.
Wolf pouted. "Boss, what were you doing just now? I knocked forever before you opened up."
Wynter glanced toward Dalton, now seated on the couch. Her voice softened. "I was handling something. Weren't you supposed to be heading back with Mr. Antoine?"
Wolf's face turned serious. "I was on my way when I suddenly caught the same scent I smelled at the Colifernia municipal building."
Wynter's eyes darkened. "Where?"
It was the first lead on the old man since arriving in Havenia. She couldn't afford to brush it off.
Wolf shook his head. "It vanished. I followed the trail, but it disappeared after a few steps."
Wynter and Dalton were at a loss for words.
Before Wynter could say anything, Dalton cut in. "Is the smartwatch I gave you just for decoration?"
Wolf looked down at his wrist. "Oh… I forgot. I just wanted to run over and tell Boss first."
Wynter's brows creased. "Just call me next time. How are you getting back to Mr. Antoine?"
Wolf took a sip of water. "I told them to head back without me. They'll pick me up tomorrow."
Hearing that, Wynter glanced around the room. "There are only two king beds. What now? There's no place for you to sleep."
Wolf grinned. "Push them together, and I'll sleep in the middle! Boss, you and he can each have a side."
