As soon as the door opened, Jonathan and Melissa stood up. "Sweetheart, what did Samuel say after you went to see him?"
The elderly couple looked worried. They were afraid that Sierra had been bullied by Samuel.
"He still refuses to accept a divorce," Sierra replied with a smile. "Mom, Dad, not only does Samuel want Sinclair Group, but he also wants your assets.
"I gave it some thought and decided not to divorce him for now. I arranged for some caregivers to take care of him. As his wife, of course, I have to care for my husband."
She deliberately emphasized "care for her husband". Jonathan was no fool, so he immediately picked up on her tone and understood her real intentions.
"You're absolutely right, sweetheart. As his wife, you should really take good care of him." Jonathan smiled warmly. "And as his father-in-law, I'll be the one to pay for the caregivers and other expenses."
"Are you serious, Jon?" Melissa didn't immediately catch on to the hidden message that was passed between Jonathan and Sierra. She looked visibly upset. "After everything he's said about our daughter, why should we still care about him?"
"Come with me." Jonathan pulled her aside to the window and whispered a few things into her ear. The moment she understood, her expression changed to one of clarity.
"Oh, so that's what's going on. In that case, I'm all for it."
"Exactly. As her parents, we want what's best for our daughter and her husband. If they're doing well, then we'll be doing well too.
"Now that Samuel has a broken leg and can't take care of himself, we need to make sure someone's watching over him closely. One housekeeper's not enough. And one caregiver won't do either. We'll need to send two."
Melissa nodded in agreement. "You're right. It's not like we're short on money."
Jonathan chuckled, his eyes gleaming with a sharp glint. "And we'll need to be careful about who we hire. They must report to us every day."
"Yes, daily reports. And if we have time, we should drop in to check on Samuel often too."
The couple shared a knowing look and smiled at each other.
Since Samuel was so eager to wipe them clean of their money, they might as well give him the "special attention" he was asking for.
"Thank goodness Sierra tells us everything. I was so worried that she'd try to carry all this on her own just to avoid upsetting us."
"As long as she's willing to confide in us, we'll always support her as her parents."
"Absolutely." Melissa was clearly moved. "We raised our daughter well. She's nothing like that ungrateful Samuel."
"Exactly."
While Jonathan and Melissa whispered by the window, Sierra pulled out her phone and sent a message to Samuel.
Sierra: "Samuel, since you're so dead set against the divorce, I've decided to just let it go. No divorce, then. I'll send over two more caregivers to look after you."
Sierra: "Your legs aren't working right now, and one housekeeper isn't enough. If the two new caregivers still aren't enough, let me know, and I'll send more."
After she hit send, she tossed her phone onto the couch.
Not long after, her phone rang. Samuel was calling.
The ringtone blared, but she didn't pick up.
Samuel finally gave up and started sending messages.
Samuel: "Sierra, I knew it. You still care about me. You still love me. As long as you don't divorce me, I won't ask for your parents' money. That was just my anger talking."
Samuel: "Between husband and wife, why should there be division?"
Samuel: "But Sierra, you really need to distance yourself from Sophia. Your situation is different. What happened to you wasn't your fault, but she brought it on herself."
Sierra didn't even bother reading the messages. She just picked up her phone, blocked his number and account, then finally enjoyed some peace.
