Chapter 446 -445 Epilogue (5)
Yu Zhuyin and Jiang Nanshu exchanged glances.
The opportunity had arrived.
Lao Wu walked in with a gun, the loaded barrel aimed at Yu Zhuyin’s head, “Stretch out your hands, and don’t try anything.”
She was unarmed and powerless, her face darkening as she reluctantly extended her hands. Handcuffs clamped around her wrists, and then the gun was pointed at Jiang Nanshu.
Four burly men stood in front of them, strong and well-prepared.
Suppressing the urge to fight back, Jiang Nanshu calmly asked, “If my hands are cuffed, who will hold this child? Would any of you be willing?”
The men looked disdainfully at the child.
The child was merely bait; now that the captives were secured, she was of no further use to them—except maybe to serve as leverage when the time came to kill Jiang Nanshu. The child’s mother would have to be involved then.
They certainly did not want blood on their hands, risking prison time.
But none of them wanted to carry the filthy-looking kid.
Lao Wu scowled, and after a moment’s hesitation, he made up his mind, “You carry her. Don’t play any tricks on us. Even if you were dead, as long as Lu Qingyan wants to give you a proper burial, he will come.”
Jiang Nanshu pursed her lips; this was the first time she had witnessed a corpse posing a threat to others.
Yet, she believed what the kidnapper said.
She was heavily pregnant and unable to hold Youyou, so she had to carry the child on her back.
After several hours of being wiped down with cold water, her fever had decreased significantly.
Jiang Nanshu continued, “Can you give this child some fever-reducing medicine? A dead person can’t threaten anyone. If she doesn’t bring her fever down, she might not survive the night.”
Lao Wu frowned deeper, and the leader gave Jiang Nanshu a meaningful look before speaking in a heavy tone, “Throw her some fever medicine. Whether the kid lives or dies is up to her fate. It’s none of our concern if she dies.”
How could it not be their concern?
Had it not been for them, she should be receiving treatment in a hospital.
But Jiang Nanshu offered a faint smile, “Of course, if she dies, we can only say it was bad luck for the child. Just find a hole and bury her, that’s all.”
It was then that Lao Wu went cursing to find the medicine, tossing over a box, “Take it. The damn kid better die later, not screw up our plans.”
The leading man handed Jiang Nanshu a bottle of mineral water.
Finally, Jiang Nanshu could give Youyou her medicine.
After administering the medicine, Lao Wu, impatient, grabbed Jiang Nanshu and hustled her to the car, “Move it, let’s not waste any more time.”
“We still have a stretch of mountain road to traverse.”
This wasn’t their final destination.
Jiang Nanshu held Youyou and got into the car first.
She watched through the rearview mirror as the wooden cabin grew farther and farther away.
…
Half an hour after Jiang Nanshu had left,
The cabin door was kicked open with force. Lu Qingyan entered, beginning his meticulous search for Jiang Nanshu’s tracks.
She had been missing for nearly six hours, and he was almost driven to madness.
Lu Qingyan kicked open the bedroom door; the bedding was wrinkled. His eyes, bloodshot, scanned the room until they paused on a corner beneath the bed—a sudden stillness overcame him as he quickly picked up an item.
It was the amulet he had sought for Jiang Nanshu, opened. Lu Qingyan tore it open to reveal a few words written in fresh blood, “I’m safe, don’t worry.”
A flash of red flitted through Lu Qingyan’s eyes.
