Ivy reached out and tapped Madge lightly on the head. "I've noticed you don't listen to me much lately."
Madge grinned. "I'm just trying to give you two some private time."
"We don't need private time," Ivy said quickly.
Madge rested her chin on her hand. "That's not what it looked like a while ago. You were practically glued together. Now, something's off. I can feel it."
Was it that obvious?
"I honestly think Mr. Lowe is into you," Madge said.
"He's into me?" Ivy let out a dry laugh. "You've got to be kidding. He doesn't. We're in a business marriage. Feelings aren't necessary."
Madge raised a brow. "If he didn't have feelings for you at all, how did you end up pregnant?"
Ivy paused.
They had been happy in bed. That part had never been a lie.
"I still think you two could go back to how things were," Madge said. "You used to cling to him, act cute, lean on him. He liked that. Can't you tell he falls for it every time?"
Did he?
Back then, she had done all of that because she wanted a baby. Now that she was pregnant, she felt awkward doing it again.
Madge went on, "Men like Mr. Lowe, they're proud. Confident. You've got to be the one who reaches up and pulls him down. Once a guy like that steps off his pedestal and into your hands, he's not going anywhere."
She glanced at Ivy's stomach and smiled.
"And you're carrying the Lowe family's heir. Trust me, he'll listen to you."
"I…" Ivy hesitated.
"First figure out what you actually want," Madge said gently. "Once you know that, everything else gets easier."
Ivy went quiet.
