The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 9

"Our two families are deeply bound to each other through this marriage. We can't just decide on a divorce casually! Cole, can't you think things through before making a decision? How are we going to explain to our families if we suddenly file a divorce?"

Compared to Yvonne's turmoil, I remained calm and composed.

"It's not a big deal. I'll talk to them. As for the connection between our families, you don't need to worry about it. It was your family who needed the Joplin family back then, and this marriage was essentially a partnership.

"Now, Langley Group has grown strong enough not to rely on the Joplin family anymore. Besides, a divorce isn't going to affect our business relationship either. Profit triumphs over all in the business industry, after all. I'm sure both our families are aware of this, so there's no need for me to explain this further, right?

"All your worries are pretty nonexistent. I'll just print another copy, and you should sign it as soon as possible."

By the time I finished explaining, Yvonne was seething. Ignoring her, I sat at my desk and printed another copy of the divorce agreement.

My resolve finally made her lose her composure. At this point, she should've realized that I wasn't just throwing a tantrum but was genuinely serious about the divorce.

Grabbing my hand on top of the mouse, Yvonne gritted out, "Cole, do you really want a divorce? You'd better think twice. If I agree to this, there'll be no turning back for you!"

I glanced up at her and smirked. "I never regret what I do," I said, clicking the mouse.

The sound of the printer starting up drowned out whatever words Yvonne wanted to say. With a grim expression, she released my hand and sneered, "Fine. If you want a divorce so badly, I'll fulfill your wish. Don't act like I can't live without you.

"But I don't agree with what you said yesterday. Redraw the divorce agreement, and I'll take custody of both kids."

Men understood men best. Few could treat someone else's child as their own.

And Jared, knowing full well that Yvonne was married with kids, still chose to interfere in her marriage. How could I expect someone like him, who lacked even the most basic morals, to be kind?

"You don't know anything about Jared!" Yvonne immediately retorted. "How could you make such malicious assumptions about him? Even if everyone in the world changes, he'll always stay the same!"

I was somewhat surprised by Yvonne's unconditional trust in Jared. Though it made me uncomfortable, I still wished for her not to be disappointed in the end.

After all, my sons would suffer if Jared did change.
