The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 340

"Jared, you should at least have a conscience," I said.

I couldn't bear to watch any longer as I called him out, saying, "Don't forget, Xavier only ended up in this situation because of you."

"You can't say that. I wasn't even there," Jared replied.

He would have endured it even if those people were to insult him to his face. At least then, he would claim that Xavier was standing up for him.

But Jared hadn't even been at the school when the incident happened. Xavier's actions had been completely unnecessary.

It was a stupid display.

Xavier was just a young child. He could not help but feel incredibly wronged when he heard Jared blame him for everything.

"Jared, stop playing the victim after you take advantage of others," I retorted.

This man really excelled at gaining sympathy by playing the victim.

I stared at Jared coldly. His words had definitely hurt Xavier a lot. I said, "Xavier only ended up in this situation because he was standing up for you, so figure this out yourself."

I couldn't be bothered to argue any further, so I gave him a choice. "Either you clear up this news yourself or I'll take Xavier with me."

Jared's expression darkened instantly. "He's an artist in my studio."

"He doesn't have to be for long," I retorted.

I already had Murphy look into Jared's company. It was barely scraping by. "You can't even afford to pay your artists. Why don't you sell your company while you still can? At least you might be able to survive that way."

There was no reason for him to continue operating a company that was basically a black hole. But Jared was incredibly stubborn and refused to budge.

Yvonne frowned at this. Jared's company had been running on Xavier's acting income the whole time.

If Xavier's reputation took a hit, they would lose all their revenue sources.

Obviously, Yvonne was trying to push all the blame on me.

I turned to face Yvonne, who was frowning at Xavier's condition. "When was the last time you really looked at him?"

Yvonne asked in confusion, "I see him every day."

"I mean really looked closely at him," I pressed.

As I watched the bewildered look on her face, it was obvious that the fiery woman she used to be had been worn down by life. It seemed like she had been replaced by someone who was confused and lost.

"Yvonne, how did you let yourself end up like this?" I asked.

She was devoid of all life in her. She was basically a zombie.

And she had dragged Xavier down with her, completely taking away his spirit.
