"That has nothing to do with me."
When she kicked me out of the family, she specifically told me not to return. Now that Joplin Group was not doing well, she came looking for me, asking me to clean up after Chris' mess. I was not going to let her take advantage of me.
I carefully helped Lorraine to a seat. Once I made sure that she was feeling alright, I headed out to deal with the reporters.
"Mr. Joplin, did you open this company for your son, Xavier?"
"I heard that he's planning to bring his career in the entertainment industry to new heights. Will your other son, Jonas, do that too in the future?"
"I saw you holding onto Ms. Sommerton. Is she feeling unwell?"
"Is she pregnant?"
The reporters were astute observers. They could guess that Lorraine was pregnant just based on my actions.
I looked at them coldly and accepted a microphone from Murphy. "You know much more than me. Why do you still need to ask me?"
The press conference was meant to introduce the company, but seeing their research on the company, I felt I no longer needed to make any introductions. They knew much more than me.
The reporters approached me, stuffing their microphones in my face.
"Half an hour is the most I can give you."
Immediately, someone asked about Yvonne, "Is Ms. Langley not coming today?"
"Why would she come?"
Did they think that Yvonne and I would still get back together? Or that I was still in love with her?
What meaningless questions.
After a while, the questions started to bore me. I was just about to leave when I heard a child calling out to me, "Daddy."
Some stood right next to us and placed microphones near Xavier. "Xavier, does your mother know that you came here looking for your father?"
"I heard that Jared has already adopted you. You and your father are close. Are you not worried that Jared will get mad and no longer help you out?"
Everything they said offended me, making me glare at them. "Are you trying to say that Xavier can only rely on Jared for his career?"
These people treat Jared like some sort of god. It was as if without him, Xavier would not be able to survive in the entertainment industry.
"Do you just not understand us enough, or do you think that we won't survive without him?"
They treated Jared as a god but treated me as if I were some useless piece of trash.
I picked Xavier up, placing a hand on the top of his head. "I created this company for Xavier. I'm not afraid of what you guys just said. It'll even be better if he and Jared have nothing to do with each other."
Then, I looked right into the camera. "Jared Lawson, you got that?"
