Grandma was speechless. She knew her excuse was a flimsy one, so she had no words to retort.
Chris did not get the upper hand at all. He looked at me in a daze with furrowed brows. I waved my hand and said, "You can see yourself out."
He harrumphed quietly, yet he insisted on not leaving. "Cole, you've just opened such a huge company. What's the harm in letting us have a look around?"
I didn't stop him and shrugged. "Do whatever you want. Just don't destroy anything."
"Don't worry. I'll just give you my suggestions."
I watched as Chris led Grandma away and got Murphy to come over. "Keep an eye on him. See what he's up to."
Chris stopped in front of a pond. "Can you stop following us?"
"I'm just following Mr. Joplin's orders."
Grandma stared daggers at Murphy too. "Is he guarding himself even against his grandmother?"
Even if she was old, Grandma was still a domineering figure.
"I'm just following Mr. Joplin's orders." Murphy did not dare to disobey me. He lowered his head and smiled apologetically.
"Get Cole to come over here." Grandma was so pissed she was not in the mood to walk around anymore. She initially thought of having a look around to see what she could give me as a gift from the Joplin residence. She never thought that I'd get Murphy to keep an eye on them.
"Mr. Joplin is busy. Why don't we…"
"Is he so busy that he doesn't have time for me at all?" Grandma raised her hand and slapped Murphy. She was already unhappy that I opened the entertainment company. Now, I was even refusing to see her? She thought that I was trying to cut ties with the Joplin family.
Chris' heart sank. "So, you got me to take the position because…"
"I thought that Cole would beg me to give the position back to him. I never thought that he'd be so stubborn," she huffed and looked at Chris condescendingly.
She added, "Don't think that I don't know what has happened to Joplin Group's shares. Joplin Group isn't something for you to play house with."
When she heard footsteps coming from behind, she turned around and left.
"Grandma, the opening ceremony isn't over yet," I said to her gently. I sensed that something was off between her and Chris.
"The company isn't too bad."
