Mom had stayed here for so many years, yet her belongings were so pitifully few. I managed to carry them all in one hand.
"Mom, let's go," I said to her.
I walked away with one hand holding Lorraine's hand and the other holding Mom's. We had just reached the door when I suddenly felt a hand grab me. The grip was so light that I could have easily shaken it off with a flick.
"What is it now?" I asked impatiently.
However, Dad was still my father, and I couldn't just ignore him with so many people watching.
"It's been so many days. Isn't it about time to stop making a mess of things and come back? Don't make your grandma worry," Dad said.
He had initially wanted us gone, but it seemed like he was reluctant to see Mom go. They had been together for so many years, so how could there not be any feelings between them? No matter how great that other woman was, she couldn't compare to Mom.
Dad's tearful gaze fell on Mom. "Nicole, let's talk this through. You…"
"Don't call Mom's name. You're not worthy," I said as I shook off his hand. I knew that my expression was filled with anger at that moment.
"I would've left a long time ago if Mom hadn't been stopping me. Do you really think Joplin Group matters that much to me?" I asked. I actually didn't care for the company at all.
Turning my head toward Grandma, I said bluntly, "Grandma, you should be glad that Mom is such a good daughter-in-law. Otherwise, I would've left a long time ago. I wouldn't have waited for you to kick me out!"
It was the first time Grandma heard of this. She never expected that I wouldn't be interested in Joplin Group at all.
"That's great. The troublesome one is finally gone!" he said to himself.
"There's no need to rush with Hayden. Hayden loves Cole so much that he'll definitely leave with Cole," Chris muttered.
A long time after I left, Chris finally stepped out. He turned to Dad with a look of feigned shock. "Dad, what's going on? I heard that Cole came back? I was so worried that he did something to you guys. Surely, he didn't, right?"
His voice was trembling as he said all of this. "Dad, say something."
He was acting like he knew what I was planning on doing all along. He walked over to Grandma and tentatively asked, "Grandma, did Cole upset you again? Don't worry, I'll teach him a lesson for you."
As he said that, he turned to leave, but Grandma stopped him. "How do you know what he did? Did he tell you something?"
