The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 284

I took another step forward and sneered.

Perfect! I'd see if the Joplin family really wouldn't crumble without me.

As soon as I left, Grandma hurled a teacup to the ground. "Bunch of useless fools! What's the point of keeping you around if you can't even handle your own son?"

Dad had always been a coward. He had never achieved anything much in his career. When he was young, Grandma helped him manage the company, and when he got older, he had me.

Even though Hayden was also his son, Hayden was completely detached from the family. His interests lay elsewhere.

"This company really can't function without Cole. Do you really think your other sons are as capable as him?" Grandma said.

The fact that someone like Dad managed to have two sons as exceptional as Hayden and I was already akin to winning the lottery. Did he think all of his sons were that amazing?

Chris could tell that Grandma was shooting a veiled insult at him. He was unhappy about it, but he still tried to fawn over her, "Grandma, don't you still have me? I can help you run the company. I might not have that much experience yet, but I can learn."

"Do you think running a company is that simple?" Grandma scoffed. She had never liked Chris from the very beginning.

All of them seemed to think that she had gone senile—even Chris.

Grandma cast him a sideways glance and warned, "Don't think that letting you take up the position of general manager means I've acknowledged you. I wouldn't even have interfered in the company's affairs if it weren't for the fact that Cole has gotten too influential within the company."

Chris actually knew Grandma's intentions all along; he just never wanted to admit it.

He frowned and tried to say something. "Mom, no matter what, Chris is still my son. Aren't you being a bit too biased?"

"That's your illegitimate child, not a descendant of the Joplin family." She made her stance crystal clear as she tapped her cane on the floor in annoyance.

"I don't care what it takes, but you must bring Cole back. This company can't run without him," she said.

She never expected me to have such an explosive temper. She had thought that I would just stay there and wait for Chris to step down as general manager. With me gone, the company lacked a leader. Its future had become uncertain.

Grandma glanced at the two behind her before she went upstairs. "You must bring Cole back. Do you hear me?"

"Mom, don't worry. When have I ever failed to carry out your orders? I'll make sure to bring him back," Dad replied.
