Jonas nodded obediently, but the sadness on his face was still evident. He had hoped that Yvonne would come and see him, but she had left quickly with Xavier.
Lorraine dragged me out of the hospital room and reproached me, "Why didn't you get Yvonne to come in to see Jonas?"
She was good to Jonas, but in the end, Yvonne was still Jonas' mother.
"She didn't want to. There was nothing much I could've done about it," I replied.
I couldn't just force her to come in. Besides, Xavier was cutting ties with me as well.
Lorraine had a look of exasperation on her face. "You're too impulsive. He's just a child who doesn't understand much."
It was precisely because he was a child that I couldn't keep excusing his behavior over and over again.
…
Meanwhile, Xavier followed Yvonne to Jared's newly opened studio.
Jared was planning on training some new talent. Even though he had maintained his status in the entertainment industry for so long, his fame was already waning. He wanted to cultivate a new generation of stars, and Xavier was one of them.
Xavier's label as a young prodigy was enough for them to attract endorsements. He had already paved the way for Xavier. In just a few days, he managed to contact numerous directors.
"Xavier, what do you think of this one? This director's films have a great reputation overseas. If you star in his movie, your career in the entertainment industry will reach new heights." Yvonne was already looking forward to Xavier becoming an award-winning actor.
Xavier looked at the jobs they had arranged for him with an unenthusiastic expression.
"Mommy, I'll do whatever you say," he replied.
He had never acted before. His nerves were one thing, but he was also afraid that his father truly didn't want him anymore.
The Joplin family began seeing more and more of Xavier in the media. Grandma was absolutely infuriated by that.
She slammed her cup onto the table. "Yvonne is really determined to go against our family. She's just parading Xavier around in public."
Chris fanned the flames when he heard that. "Grandma, you can't put all the blame on Yvonne. If Cole had just taken responsibility for Xavier, they wouldn't have needed to do this."
"It doesn't matter why it happened. This is an embarrassment to the Joplin family." Grandma was absolutely furious just thinking about it. She did not want to think about me at all.
"Chris, from now on, you'll have to be the pillar of the Joplin family," she said in exasperation.
Chris smiled slyly. "Don't worry, Grandma. You just have to entrust the family to me. I absolutely won't let you down like Cole did."
His lips curled into an unsettling smile.
