The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 207

"Mommy will be worried if she can't find me," Xavier said, his gaze inching toward Lorraine. "Plus, aren't you already married to her?"

I was stunned. I knew he still held my marriage against me.

"Xavier, you should call her Ms. Sommerton."

"I don't care who she is. She took you away from me!" Xavier yelled, shoving my hand away and darting off in another direction.

"Xavier!" I hurried after him and ran into Yvonne at a corner.

"Why are you here?" she questioned, shielding Xavier behind her. "What are you going to do to Xavier?"

"Since you're here, let's talk," I said.

Eyeing me warily, Yvonne took a few steps back and said, "There's nothing to talk about."

"Yvonne, I know you're going to establish a media company. You know you can't manage it on your own, and you can't possibly rely on Jared, can you?"

That man was practically useless. He might be skilled at acting, but when it came to business, he was completely at a loss.

"Or are you looking for someone else's help?"

But I bet Jared wouldn't agree to that either.

"What do you mean?" Yvonne scoffed. "Are you trying to get your share of the cake too?"

I noticed her gaze shift to Lorraine. "Would she be fine with it?"

"Even if she were fine with it, I wouldn't want to work with you," I snapped.

"Then our conversation ends right here."

"I heard you intend to make your brand go public overseas."

Hearing this, Yvonne stopped in her tracks. "Do you have a way?"

She had been pondering whether she should register a company overseas. Since Jared's fame had skyrocketed lately, she could use it to promote her brand.

Ambitious as ever, she was eager to expand her business abroad.

"The hearing is tomorrow," I said, rubbing my sore neck.

Lorraine was wearing a sheer nightgown. Since that incident, we hadn't been alone together like this.

Wrapping my arm around her waist, I asked, "Do you want to stay here tonight?"

Her face flushed bright red.

Not wanting to pressure her, I was just about to rephrase when she muttered, "Sure."

Lorraine buried her face in my chest, and I could feel her grip on my jacket tightening. I scooped her up into my arms and strode toward the bedroom.

The next morning, Murphy brought the contract he had just drafted to the office.

"Mr. Joplin, are you really going to help Yvonne?" he asked, sharing my disdain for Yvonne, especially given that her actions had caused Joplin Group's share price to drop.

"I can't let her hurt Xavier."
