The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 189

Yvonne raised her voice as she walked up to me and demanded, "Don't you know what happened?"

I lifted the bowl, and it was clear that I couldn't be bothered to reply to her.

"Cole, do you know Jonas was bullied at school? If I hadn't seen it when I picked Xavier up, you wouldn't even have been able to see him tonight!"

"Who?" I slammed the bowl onto the bedside table, my expression instantly darkening. "Who bullied him?"

I had spoken to the principal the last time I visited. How could this happen again?

"Didn't you always claim to be responsible? Why are you so clueless now?" She tilted her head back triumphantly. Her smug expression was truly irritating.

I glanced at Jonas and was unwilling to argue with Yvonne in front of him. "Step outside with me."

She remained seated opposite me, reluctant to move. "No. I still have things to tell Lorraine."

"What do you have to tell her?"

I instinctively positioned myself between her and Lorraine. Jonas stood nearby, curiously staring at the cast on her arm. In his soft, childlike voice, he asked, "Ms. Sommerton, what's that?"

"This is a cast. It's because my arm is hurt," Lorraine explained patiently. Only Yvonne and I were on edge in the entire ward.

"Did you forget my company is collaborating with yours?" Yvonne raised her hand as her gaze landed on Lorraine. "If I remember correctly, she's in charge of the fashion advertisements."

A smile crept onto her lips. Her sneer showed her eagerness to see Lorraine fail. "There's only one week left. Can you plan an ad by then? Cole has always said you're talented, so prove it. What makes you so special that he'd set up an entire studio just for you?"

When Yvonne and I were together, I had never done anything like that for her.

"It's all your fault for indulging her." Yvonne slammed the table in anger.

"That's an odd thing to say. Who else should I be indulging if not her? You?"

Her eyes twitched, but she said nothing.

"Yvonne, I've given you chances in the past. You were the one who didn't want them." She made the decision to end this marriage. Why was she acting all lovesick now? Did she think I was easy to fool?

"It was only because—"

"I don't want to hear it. It's all in the past." I tapped the table. "Tell me—what are your requirements for this ad?"
