"You're right." I looked at the only photo I had of Lorraine in my phone and replied.
"If I just want a woman, I do have many choices, so it really doesn't have to be Lorraine."
"If that's so, then…"
Murphy was even more confused. He remembered that Grandma had once picked out many women for me, but I didn't like any of them. Those women were wealthy and beautiful. Any one of them would be better than Lorraine.
"Do you think those women would treat Jonas well?"
Murphy was at a loss for words.
Those women were pampered and spoiled by their families. It would be practically mission impossible for them to be a good stepmom to a nine-year-old.
"Everyone is capable of pretending for the first few days. They'll last a week, at most, before their true colors come out."
Why else would they marry me? For Joplin Group, of course. I couldn't pick any of them.
If I were to have children with them, Jonas would be put in an even more difficult place.
Only Lorraine would treat Jonas with genuine care.
I tossed Murphy the USB that I had organized and said, "This isn't something you should be racking your head about. Just do what I've asked you to, and do it well."
Murphy kept quiet immediately. He caught the USB and left.
Lorraine was on my mind, so I couldn't help but give her a call.
She answered very quickly. I heard her panting, so I thought she might have just finished work.
"Did it go well?" I asked.
Lorraine wiped the sweat beaded on her forehead as her voice rang with uncontrollable excitement, "Exceptionally well! Many people came today. My previous clients showed up as well."
She really hadn't expected her past clients to show up in support of her since she had always been working under her previous company before this.
When she remembered that all of this was made possible because of me, she blushed as she called out to me softly, "Cole."
"What is it? I'm listening."
"Thank you."
She was just reminded that a few of her colleagues didn't know about her identity and lowered her head anxiously.
"They've already seen us. It's too late to hide." I yanked Lorraine's shoulders upward, forcing her to sit up as displeasure colored my eyes.
"When are you going to take our relationship seriously?"
Lorraine visibly paused when she heard what I said.
"A-Are you angry?" she asked in a timid, soft voice, carefully looking up at me.
"Not exactly angry. But I really hope that you'll no longer hide our relationship and be so secretive about it. Are you ashamed of me?"
I really didn't know what to say. Should I be grateful that she knew her boundaries too well?
"Did you know that my ex-girlfriends were all very eager to announce our relationship to the world?"
Only she would wish that no one else in the world saw me.
Lorraine suddenly felt a little nervous. She didn't feel too comfortable about it. "Why didn't you stay with them, then?"
