The results were soon announced. Sure enough, Lorraine was the winner.
"Congratulations!"
I had Murphy take Lorraine to the studio. She had just been appointed head, so it was best that she kept a low profile for now.
The gossip in the company spread like wildfire, and when Grandma arrived, she just happened to overhear them talking.
"Lorraine sure is impressive. She's only been at the company for less than two months, and now, she's been appointed head."
"But I think her abilities are anywhere near Sarah's."
"It's too bad Sarah doesn't have the same knack for cozying up with men. If she were with Mr. Joplin, she'd definitely be at the top by now."
Grandma, who was in the same elevator, could feel her expression grow darker with each word.
Wyatt stood silently to the side with a cold expression on his face. He was about to tell them off but was stopped by Grandma.
The words from these employees were the most truthful.
In Grandma's eyes, I was nothing but a frivolous playboy who only loved to flirt around with women. She stood at the door and used her walking cane to knock.
"Come in."
Hearing the door open, I couldn't help but say sharply, "Who's the one making such a huge entrance… Grandma? What are you doing here?"
I stopped mid-sentence as I heard her taunting voice.
"Why'd you stop?"
She looked around, and when she saw that Lorraine was nowhere in sight, she let out a sigh of relief.
Recalling what the employees had said earlier, her expression immediately turned stern. "Tell me, what were those people talking about?"
"Didn't you hear?"
I didn't answer her directly. Grandma had become a little too nosy lately.
I was contemplating whether I should find something for her to do.
"Are you really set on being with Lorraine?"
"Grandma, it's not that I'm set on it. It's just that there's no way we can separate anymore."
I handed her our marriage certificate. "Look, I'm not joking."
Grandma was being brutally realistic. It sounded like she was eagerly trying to kick my two kids out of the picture.
"Grandma, I'm still young. I'll think about having kids later."
I caught a flicker of anger in her eyes and immediately turned away, pretending not to notice it.
…
Meanwhile, Lorraine was busy preparing for tomorrow's opening ceremony. The studio wasn't the same as the company. She had to handle almost everything on her own.
When Chad called out to her, Lorraine was in the middle of hanging up the banners.
"Hi, Chad."
"So, you haven't forgotten about me. Why didn't you tell me about your wedding?"
Sensing the spirited tone in his voice, Lorraine knew that he had finally paid off his debt.
"Didn't Dad tell you?"
Perhaps she had spent too much time with me, but Lorraine found her words sharper than usual. She turned around coldly, refusing to look at Chad's smug grin.
