"You bastard!" Grandma mustered all of her strength to stand up so that she could slap me in the face.
Yvonne's body jolted at the sight of the marriage certificate. She was rather surprised, to say the least.
"Grandma, please calm down."
"Who the hell gave you permission to get married? Did you find my grandsons a stepmother?"
"At least the stepmother is better than my sons' actual mother."
Disgust flared from my core when I stared into Yvonne's pain-filled eyes.
"Stop pretending. You really think I don't know what you and Jared are planning?"
A pregnant pause later, Yvonne began crying while retorting, "What plan could I possibly have? Why do you keep thinking that Jared and I are plotting against you?"
Meanwhile, Grandma felt irritated when she heard Yvonne's cries. She patted her shoulder as a way to comfort her.
"That's enough. Stop crying, Yvonne. People might think I'm hosting a funeral here because of how much you're wailing."
Yvonne's tears stemmed instantly. She could tell that Grandma was displeased with her, so she quickly straightened up. Then, she began spouting bullshit, "Grandma, I know I'm in the wrong here, but Jonas is innocent. If Cole insists on proceeding with the wedding, I'm definitely taking Jonas home with me."
She looked like she would put her foot down no matter what. I could even see a shred of steel-like resolve in her eyes when she looked at me.
It seemed like Yvonne was willing to pay whatever price there was in order to take Jonas away from me.
"Yvonne Langley, you keep claiming that you're nothing but nice to Jonas. Let me ask you this—whenever you go out on dates with Jared, have you ever wondered what will happen to Jonas when he's left alone at home?"
Yvonne's expression changed instantly. At the same time, she gritted her teeth.
She waved at Grandma nervously. "Grandma, don't listen to Cole's nonsense! I've never gone on dates with anyone! I've been single all this while!"
"What's the point in lying, huh?"
Another tear slid down her cheek as she continued struggling against me.
"You think I don't have evidence against you?" I sneered while glaring into Yvonne's widened eyes. "Yvonne, you've spoiled Jared way too much."
My grip tightened on her hand. "He wants to hurt my son."
Yvonne stared at me in disbelief. She managed to spit through clenched teeth, "That's impossible!"
She felt that Jared had been nothing but nice to Jonas this whole time. How could he possibly hurt Jonas?
"Are you doubting me for real, or are you just playing dumb?"
My gaze flickered from Yvonne's face to her belly. "Or… did you give him permission to hurt Jonas?"
"How could I hurt Jonas? Also, Jared doesn't even live with Jonas! Why would he even hurt Jonas in the first place?"
