Xavier looked up at me in suspicion, not believing me.
"I'd never lie to you."
I hoped that the children would have a happy childhood instead of constantly living in fear of their parents' emotions.
I picked Xavier up. Yvonne was a little jealous looking at the two of us being close together.
She approached me and reached out her hands. "Xavier, come home with Mommy."
I could sense Xavier's grasp around my neck tightening. I said, "Xavier will be staying with me tonight."
"No way." Yvonne looked at me in refusal.
"Jonas and Xavier haven't seen each other for a long time. Why can't you let them be together?" I continued sarcastically, "Are you afraid that Xavier wouldn't want to go back to you after a night with me?"
How could she have zero self-confidence as a mother?
"Xavier is a good boy." When she said that, I sensed Jonas slowly lowering his head.
Seeing how she was not planning to explain, I hugged Jonas as well. "Jonas is a good boy too."
Xavier was clearly unhappy to share space with his brother in my arms.
Jonas noticed it and gently squirmed, saying, "Daddy, put me down. I can walk on my own. It's too tiring for you."
Besides, Xavier was unhappy about it.
I saw through Jonas' thoughts and told him, "I'm strong. I can carry the two of you."
When Yvonne saw Jonas, she realized the mistake she had made, but it was too late for an explanation.
Seeing how she looked like she had something to say, I sighed. "You've already said what you said. What's the point in explaining right now?"
"Why are you looking at me like this? I want the children to be happy too."
A father played an important role in the children's life. Besides, I had always been a responsible parent.
"I'll go and pick Xavier up tomorrow morning," Yvonne said before leaving. She had taken merely two steps before she turned around once more and said, "Don't let me ever see Lorraine Sommerton."
I looked at her in a daze. Why did she change her mind so suddenly?
Jonas and Xavier poked my cheeks. "Daddy, where are we going?"
I looked at both of them, feeling content. "Home."
Xavier's room still remained the same. I brought his laptop back as well.
"Xavier, I heard you're amazing in IT. Can you show me?"
