Lorraine unbuckled her seatbelt, thinking of getting out of the car.
"Lorraine." I held her wrist and said a little helplessly, "Aren't we friends?" I didn't like it when she distanced herself from me.
"I-I'm in a little trouble."
"Tell me." I looked away so that she could relax a little. From the corners of my eyes, I noticed Lorraine taking a deep breath as if she was mentally preparing herself.
How adorable. I could not help but smile.
She said, "I was fired." Lorraine told the truth without any embarrassment.
"For no reason?"
What kind of company would do that?
I looked at how she was a little hesitant and would not look at me. I immediately understood the reason.
"Was it because of me? Because of those rumors?" I was previously worried that this would affect her. I never thought that it really would.
"It's not your fault. My capabilities are—"
"You're more than capable," I knew what she was about to say and interrupted her. "Since you're no longer working there… Murphy, pass me the document."
I accepted the document from Murphy and said to Lorraine, "Why don't you consider my company?"
"Y-Your company?" Lorraine asked in surprise.
Langley Group was involved in a wide range of industries. Although I didn't have many designers in the company, every single designer was the cream of the crop. Lorraine was in this industry, so she had to know the capabilities of Langley Group.
I look at her flipping through the document, the knot in her brows slowly loosening.
I asked, "Why don't you think about it?"
"W-Won't I be taking advantage of you by joining the company in this way?"
I was worried that she wouldn't accept it, so I said, "No. We'll go according to the usual interview and hiring procedure."
Lorraine finally smiled. "Alright. I'll give it a try."
She had a sweet smile that could easily elicit a man's desire to protect her.
I had not seen Jared for more than a week. He looked much better than before. He was even fitter too.
"Looks like Yvonne really trusts you."
Joplin Group had a business meeting with Langley Group that day. Yvonne was supposed to come, but I never thought that it was Jared who came instead.
I didn't know what he had done to gain their trust. The fact that he was representing them in a business meeting proved just how much they trusted him.
"This is all thanks to you, Mr. Joplin."
He was still as passive-aggressive as usual, but his facial emotions were restrained, unlike before.
I said nothing as I sized him up.
A few minutes later, Jared asked, "Mr. Joplin, don't tell me that you won't work with Langley Group because they sent me here to negotiate this deal?"
This had happened with Lawson Group the previous time.
"What if I say that's exactly the case?"
