The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 111

Getting back together was impossible. I couldn't be bothered to quarrel with my father. In his eyes, nothing was more important than a harmonious family.

"Dad, I'm busy." I hung up before he could say anything further. I could imagine how furious he was.

I could agree to any request from him, except getting remarried.

What I didn't know was that due to the hug at the hospital, rumors were spreading about me getting back together with Yvonne.

When Lorraine called me, I was working on some documents. When I saw her name on my phone, I couldn't help but smile.

"What is it?"

Lorraine stayed silent on the call. After I pressed on further, she finally asked, "Are you getting remarried?"

"Who told you that?" I didn't know where she got the news from, but from the way she asked, she was not the only one who knew about this.

Lorraine was about to say something when I interrupted her, "Do you trust me?"

She said nothing, but I knew that she trusted me.

"Wait for me at our usual place."

I handed my work to Murphy and drove to the café. Lorraine and I rarely met up, so our only usual place was a café.

When I arrived, I didn't see her anywhere. The bigger issue was that the place was in a mess.

"What happened here?" I asked someone.

"How the hell would I know?" the person replied in an unfriendly tone.

I had a bad feeling and immediately dialed Lorraine's number. No one answered, not even after a few calls.

Could it be one of my enemies? Was it Yvonne?

Lorraine was not at the café, and she wasn't answering her phone. There was only one remaining possibility—she had been taken.

When Hayden answered my call, he had just woken up. He rubbed his groggy eyes and sounded a little annoyed.

I asked, "Does Lorraine have any enemies?"

Why did he appear again? Had he been stalking Lorraine? If not, how could he possibly kidnap her so quickly?

"What do you want?"

Sam only had one thing on his mind. I had previously looked into him and knew that his life had not been going too well.

"You're a smart man, Mr. Joplin. Looks like my sister holds an important place in your heart."

I heard the sounds of a chain clanging from the other end of the line.

"Don't do anything reckless. Let's talk it out."

"Talk it out? Mr. Joplin, have you forgotten that it was thanks to you that I'm now homeless?"

I got annoyed at his angry questioning, but for the sake of Lorraine's safety, I suppressed my feelings.

"Name your price. Don't make me repeat myself the second time."
