The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 102

I picked up the kids' backpacks and held their hands.

It had been a while since Xavier came back home. As soon as he stepped inside, he hopped around like a rabbit.

Watching him enjoying himself, I suddenly didn't feel like asking anything. I just wanted to spend time with them like this.

At the school gate, Yvonne scowled at the troubled teacher and stomped her feet in frustration. "Didn't I tell you not to let him pick up the child?"

She had worked so hard to change Xavier's impression of me, but now, everything was ruined.

Flashing a warm smile at the teacher, Jared took Yvonne into her arms and said, "Let's go pick him up."

"But it's already been two hours!" Yvonne shot a glare at the teacher before storming off to her car.

As soon as they left, the teacher sighed in relief and patted her chest. "What kind of people are they? How can they stop a child from seeing his father?"

Jared drove to the police station. Seeing the sign at the entrance, Yvonne gulped and asked, "What are we doing here?"

"We'll file a police report."

Unbuckling his seatbelt, he continued coaxing her, "Cole took Xavier without our consent and broke our agreement. Let's just play dumb and report that the child is missing."

Yvonne widened her eyes. "Can we really do that?"

"Or do you want him to keep picking up Xavier like this?"

"Of course, I don't!" she exclaimed, terrified that Xavier would get closer to me. That would be the end of her.

"Then listen to me, okay?" Jared said, kissing her forehead before leading her into the police station.

Half an hour later, I showed up at the station with the kids. The moment Xavier saw Yvonne, he dashed

toward her. Yet he froze when he saw her expression.

"Mom…"

Jared's expression immediately changed. Clenching his fists, he replied, "That was in the past. Don't you dare threaten me with this."

"Threaten you? Why would I do that?" I said, casually grabbing a pair of handcuffs from the desk.

As I tapped them against his cheek, I continued, "You're not even worth it."

Before I came, I already had Murphy organize all the information regarding Lawson Group.

"You only have one chance," I said.

"W-What do you mean?" Jared sputtered, the tremor in his voice clearly evident.

He paled and widened his eyes, his grip on Yvonne's hand tightened as his voice quavered, "What are you planning to do?"

"You should be asking your dear brother about what he's been up to. Ask him what he'd done that allowed me to have leverage over him."

Lawson Group hadn't been profiting over the years, and their situation was especially dire this year. That was why Jared was so desperate to cling to me.

"I was going to let you off the hook, but unfortunately, you brought this upon yourself."
