Frank was smiling and shaking his head. "He has connections, but he's still an ordinary human being, which means he's at our mercy. And if it were really him, I'm sure he'd eventually come to us."
Saddie nodded in agreement—that much was true, not to mention that it would be terrible if they attacked Pax, only to find out that Wilhelm was lying all along.
"I'm surprised you're such a nice guy, Master Lawrence." Sadie then grinned. "Holding back before you find out if a person is really friend or foe."
"I'm no angel." Frank smiled in wry amusement. "Not going after Pax is merely because it's completely unnecessary."
Sadie remained silent, though she had to admit that the spiritron vein had perfect judgment, picking such an incredible man to be its owner.
Soon, they returned to Golden Lily and found Ida standing at the doorway, wiping the sweat off her brow, while her clothes were also wet with sweat.
Sadie was left speechless. "What, are you trying to seduce Master Lawrence?"
Ida rolled her eyes. "Look who's talking. Did you really think everyone is like you, pretending to keep everyone at arm's reach, when in reality, you just want Master Lawrence to push you down?"
Sadie shoved Ida, and they were soon fighting.
"Alright, quit it! Just tell me—what happened here?"
Frank had faith in Ida's character that she was no skank, so something else must be happening.
"Oh, don't even get me started." Ida sighed. "Some thugs came and tried to cause trouble, but I sent them packing… But guess what? As soon as they were gone, another gang came. That's why I'm sweating like crazy!"
"Well, thank goodness you're only sweating over your brow," Sadie kept teasing. "If you were sweating all over, you'd cave."
When she saw the painting, she asked in curiosity, "The painting is clearly quite old, so why does the person in it look so fashionable?"
"It's going to look fashionable when it's someone from the modern age who drew it," Ida replied vaguely. "It would warn everyone against touching it—ruining it isn't the worst part, since that comes after."
Meg quickly nodded and went over to Frank. "You've been gone for a while, Mr. Frankton. Those thugs would really have gotten their way if it's not for Ms. Godot."
Her tone was somewhat accusing, as the thugs had really touched a nerve with their insults, and even Meg was a little annoyed.
"What's gotten into you, Ms. Quill?" Sadie asked. "Did you forget your meds? Be careful, or you'd get it from my mentor if you keep abusing him."
Meg smiled. "We won't know who'd come out on top. Push me too far, and I'll make him pay too!"
