Seeing that Mona was glaring and ready to fight back, Stanley glowered and growled, "Anyone resisting arrest will receive equal punishment as Frank Lawrence! No mercy!"
On the other hand, Vicky snorted. "Hmph. Go for it, Mona! Take down Stanley Durban—let me handle the rest! If we don't fight, we'd all end up in Blackwater!"
"Oh, no, no, no!"
Gina, seeing that Stanley was ready to arrest Helen, promptly rushed to kowtow at Stanley's feet. "Please, Mr. Mayor! My daughter divorced Frank a long time ago—she's an ex-wife, like you said! It was Frank who was a scheming bastard and dragged my daughter into this… She has already cut all ties with him!"
"Is that so?"
Stanley was smirking smugly as he watched Gina beg, and he turned toward Helen. "In that case, let me ask you—have you cut ties with the man who murdered Commissioner Kramer as this woman has said, Ms. Lane?"
Hearing Stanley's question, Gina turned to level a pleading stare at Helen too, worried that she would misspeak just then. "Helen, just calm down before you talk!"
"Mom…"
Helen scowled and sighed at her mother. "Did you really think that this man would spare us if I set myself apart from Frank?"
"Why wouldn't he?!"
Gina shot her a glare and turned back to Stanley. "The mayor is such an understanding man! He'd definitely understand. Just speak the truth—tell him that you aren't with Frank, and you'll be fine! Lanecorp will be fine!"
Helen shook her head at her naive mother. "You're not seeing it, Mom. Stanley was after all of us in the first place, just like how this funeral is a mere stage to bring us to our knees. Lanecorp is going down no matter what I say."
Hearing that, Gina was left gaping, panicking even worse than Helen. "W-What? Lanecorp is going down?! Then what should we do?! We're dead!"
Nodding, he said, "As the mayor, I certainly have to punish Lanecorp for being accomplices to the man who murdered Commissioner Kramer. However, since you're personally vouching for them, Ms. Turnbull, then I naturally have to be gracious."
Helen's heart skipped a beat, but it was clear that Stanley did not fear Vicky, since he gloated that the Turnbulls had to send someone just to bail Vicky out.
As such, being gracious was clearly bullshit—in reality, Vicky simply had something Stanley wanted.
"A while ago…"
Stanley was staring fixedly at Vicky as he continued, "Frank Lawrence—that is, the man who murdered Commissioner Kramer—had stolen two treasures from Titus Lionheart before. I want nothing else than to return those treasures to their rightful owner.
"If you're willing to assist me, Ms. Turnbull, then I wouldn't mind staying my hand."
