KAEL.
She began eating without inviting me to join her, which should be expected as she was still mad at me. But I didn’t mind. I had no appetite to eat. So I stayed back, leaning against the wall and watching her eat in silence.
“How did you find out I’m here?” She asked after a while.
“Rasmus told me.”
Her head snapped to look at me, and at the same time, I realized something. “Fuck! Are you done eating? We need to go.” I told her.
She nodded her head and didn’t complain. She came to the same realization—that this must be a trap, and we were both in danger.
Adessa drank the soft drink up to the last drop without using any straw before putting the fries and the burgers back inside the brown bag. “Can we take the food? I don’t want to throw it.”
“Yes,” I responded while peering out the window.
“You have a car, right?”
“Yes, but it’s Rasmus’ car. We’ll take a cab.”
“Okay, okay. I’m ready.” She stood, holding the paper bags in one hand and the backpack in the other.
“No. No, not the same clothes. We might need to walk a while to find a cab, and the men running after you will surely remember those clothes.”
“Right. I’ll change into something.” She dropped the bag on the bed and unzipped it.
“Dress, Adessa. If they see you in a dress, they wouldn’t think you’re someone hiding your identity, so they won’t focus on you.” I tried to speak as fast as I could.
“Okay.” She answered in a high-pitched voice and pulled out something from her bag. I thought she would run to the small toilet to change, but she just stripped off her clothes in front of me, making my eyes grow bigger.
I knew I should look away, but I couldn’t stop staring and swallowing. She had a perfectly toned stomach and bigger-than-average-sized breasts.
“You should turn around if this makes you uncomfortable.” She said as she continued to wriggle her way out of her pants.
My face must have looked funny for her to say that. “I won’t. I’m sure I’ve seen that numerous times over the course of a year.
“Yeah, right. A lot. I walked around our room and slept naked at night. So you’ve seen every birthmark and mole I have.” She said it nonchalantly, but I saw how her eyes rolled at me while she slipped into a floral dress that ended just above her knees.
I had to swallow again as my throat felt dry—really dry. Especially when she bent over to get into her dress through her feet.
She then walked and stopped before me, turning around and asking me to zip up her dress. If we were not running out of time, I would take my time doing it, as I wanted to run my fingers on her back but I needed to hurry up. “Done.”
“Thank you,” she said while shoving her pants and shirt inside her bag. She then pulled out a light gray cardigan and put it on. “Does this look okay?”
I nodded my head. I was at a loss for words. In all my encounters with Adessa, she wore pants and a shirt or blouse. I had never seen her in a dress until tonight, and she looked stunning.
“I bought them because I love flowers.” She said.
“It looks good on you.”
We reached the waiting area for buses or taxis. The next bus was scheduled to stop here in less than five minutes, so either that or a taxi if it arrived sooner.
We were just standing still, looking everywhere, when I felt her body stiffen and her clutch on my hand tighten. I was about to ask her when my eyes caught sight of two males walking on the other side of the street. A few more seconds, and they would be passing in front of where we stood.
“Don’t move, or they might look here.”
“I’m sure they will still look here.” She mumbled softly.
She was right. They would definitely do that.
Without giving it a second thought, I grabbed the nape of her neck and tilted her head to the side to face me. Without warning, I crushed my lips onto her.
She went rigid, but just for a while, before voluntarily turning her body in my direction. Soft moans escaped her throat, making her lips parted. I deepened our kiss while moving my hands to her face, cupping her cheeks so they wouldn’t be able to see any part of her face while my mouth explored hers—excitedly and eagerly, as if we were not in a sticky situation.
I knew I wanted to kiss her, but seeing how she repulsed the idea of sex between us in our conversation earlier, I thought it would not be a possibility. At least not tonight.
But luck seemed to be still on my side. I had the perfect excuse, and I was able to calm her down at the same time.
Her lips were so soft and sweet, and I was immediately sucked in, making me forget we were in a public place. Her arms wrapped around my neck as her lips moved aggressively, kissing me back in a way that felt familiar. And it seemed she knew how to kiss me in a way that I liked.
And then a vehicle stopped before us.
