"He was also her father—the very man who had cast her out to survive on the streets, the one responsible for turning her life into a living hell."
Silence crashed down like a hammer.
"He prayed to me."
"Begged me on his knees."
"For a weapon strong enough to kill her."
Alex let out a low breath, processing.
"And you complied with his request... didn’t you?"
Hephaestus nodded slowly, the admission heavy.
"Yes."
"I did. I had no other choice. I was the chosen god of that world."
Hephaestus leaned back slightly against the anvil, his tired eyes dimming further in the forge’s gloom.
"That world was my responsibility," he said in a low voice, guilt threading every word. "I had to do something."
"And so I did."
He exhaled slowly, his chest rising wearily.
"Killing her was almost impossible."
"Her body could be destroyed, flesh rent asunder."
"Her armies could be crushed under divine wrath."
"But her soul..."
His gaze darkened, haunted.
"It was something else entirely—eternal, defiant."
"So I created seven weapons."
Alex’s eyes sharpened, leaning forward intently.
"Seven?"
"Seven weapons capable of tearing apart a soul itself," Hephaestus continued, his voice measured. "Each forged with divine law etched into their core, glowing runes of unmaking."
"They were not meant to cut flesh or bone."
"They were meant to shred existence, unraveling essence."
"And when the moment came..."
His jaw tightened, reliving the cataclysm.
"It worked."
He lifted his head slightly, resolve flickering.
"The strongest warrior in that world... the Heavenly Demon..."
"The girl’s father."
"And six other heroes chosen from across the continents, legends in their own right."
"They rose together to stand against her."
"The Asura Queen."
The forge seemed to darken as he spoke her title, embers flaring uneasily.
"A war of carnage began, shaking the world."
"Mountains were shattered into dust clouds."
"Oceans split, tsunamis raging inland."
"Cities evaporated under her power, reduced to glassed craters."
"She fought alone against them all."
"And still she managed to kill four of them, their blood fueling her fury."
Alex let out a low whistle, genuine awe creeping in.
"Impressive."
Hephaestus ignored him, lost in the tale.
"Four heroes died, but they had completed their task."
"She was not invincible."
"She was injured."
"Grievously, as black blood poured from wounds that refused to heal due to the weapons I created."
"The remaining three..."
His voice grew heavier, finality settling.
"They tore her apart in her injured state."
"They used the weapons I created for them."
"And they tore her soul apart, fragmenting it like shattered glass."
Alex listened quietly, the gravity sinking in.
"Her corrupted soul was divided."
"Sealed away."
"Trapped within the seven weapons, bound by my laws."
Silence lingered, the forge’s distant hammers mocking the quiet.
Alex crossed his arms, piecing it together.
"Let me guess."
"You never managed to recover all of them."
Hephaestus narrowed his eyes, unsurprised.
"How did you know?"
Alex laughed softly.
"Nothing. It just felt like the cliché move of a useless god."
A vein bulged on Hephaestus’ forehead, irritation flashing.
"Just shut up and listen."
Alex raised both hands in mock surrender.
"Alright. I’m listening."
Hephaestus continued, undeterred.
"You humans have insatiable greed."
"Greed for power that can never be satisfied."
"And that is exactly what happened next."
"I was only able to recover four of the seven weapons. And when I sent someone to recover the other three..."
"The remaining three were reported missing."
"By the families of those heroes, their voices dripping with false sorrow."
Alex smirked faintly.
"They lied."
"Yes," Hephaestus said coldly. "They lied."
"They coveted the Asura Queen’s power."
"They believed they could harness it."
"Control it."
"Make it their own, bending its curse to their ambition."
"Every single one of them died."
