Leonard fell silent for a few seconds. "I don't have her."
Stella's voice dripped with ice. "Are you really back to your old tricks? You know I despise it when you pull this kind of thuggish garbage on women.
"I explicitly told you to leave Juniper alone."
Leonard sounded like he wanted to argue but swallowed it down. "I'm running a trace on her right now. When I find her, I'll explain everything."
He sounded incredibly distracted and hung up after just a few brisk words.
Half an hour later, Laurel called.
"Stella, I need you to get over here right now."
"Where are you?" Stella asked.
"Juniper's place." Laurel paused. "We found something. You need to see this."
Laurel pinged her the location, and Stella practically flew to the upscale apartment.
The living room was overflowing with bridal accessories and wedding favors.
Stepping inside, Stella found both Laurel and Joshua waiting for her.
Laurel was holding a glittering pink smartphone.
Stella recognized it instantly as Juniper's.
Wearing a very complicated expression, Laurel handed it over.
Stella scrolled through the screen, her stomach dropping as she read a massive thread between Juniper and Leonard.
The messages were endless streams of Juniper gloating about her upcoming wedding.
One message in particular jumped out at her.
"I don't dare brag to Ms. Cameron in case she gets jealous and steals my groom. So I'm bragging to you!
"Forever alone, forever alone, forever alone!"
Juniper had been relentlessly obnoxious, bombing Leonard with hundreds of texts and shopping photos a day.
Leonard had barely replied.
The day before the wedding, Juniper had finally gone radio silent.
But Leonard had sent one final, chilling text.
