The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 2200

Stepping off the elevator, Stella was heading toward Leonard's room when she spotted Juniper sitting in a wheelchair.

"Miss Croft?" Stella asked. "What are you doing here?"

Juniper looked up at her. "You weren't returning my calls or my texts. I needed to speak with you, so I had to wait for you here."

Stella didn't explain her silence, simply asking, "Do you have something urgent to tell me?"

Juniper bit her lip. "Did I... cause you to misunderstand Joshua?"

"No," Stella replied.

"Then why didn't you come to pick up Calico?" Juniper pressed.

"I was never the cat's owner to begin with. I only asked for your help because I was the one who found it. Perhaps the cat will be better off with its new owner."

Juniper's eyes flickered.

After a few seconds of silence, she finally spoke. "Whether it's better off isn't for outsiders to decide; the cat has to feel it's better off. It's like the other day. I took it upon myself to take a bullet for Joshua, thinking it was for his own good. But in reality, he didn't need that kind of 'good.' It was all just my own presumption."

Stella looked at Juniper. There was no resentment or prejudice in her gaze; it remained perfectly serene.

"Everyone wants to give the best they have to the person they love. Maybe he doesn't need it, or maybe he'll toss it aside like trash, but it's the best you can offer, isn't it?"

Juniper stared blankly at Stella, a surge of inexplicable emotion welling up in her chest.

She had once accused Stella of only offering Joshua things he didn't want.

But when it came down to a life-or-death moment, her own choices were no different.

Juniper lowered her head in shame. "I'm sorry."
