A few hours later, Mirabella and James rolled into Baycliffe. The whole town was buzzing with rumors of hidden treasure, casting an eerie vibe over everything. You could almost feel the tension in the air, like something was about to go down.
But not just anyone could waltz into the underground chamber; there were strict limits on who could enter. Otherwise, it would've been pure chaos by now.
"James, Ms. Mirabella," Wyatt greeted, giving them a nod in his rugged gear. "Trevor and the archaeology team have already headed inside."
"Got it," James replied, cool as ever, like a winter's chill, pinning a sleek gold brooch onto Mirabella's lapel with casual ease.
Mirabella glanced at it and raised an eyebrow. "Nice taste," she complimented.
James chuckled, sporting a matching brooch himself. With both of them dressed in dark outfits, they looked every bit the couple.
Wyatt and Curtis, both still riding the single train, exchanged a look that screamed, "Ugh, seriously?" No wonder James had been gathering materials recently—his subtle PDA was just too much for their single hearts to handle!
Before long, they reached the chamber's entrance. Officials stood guard, but Wyatt flashed a pass, and after a quick look, they stepped aside, looking a bit more respectful.
As they entered, the passage wound its way down with lights lining the walls. Even with the lighting, the end seemed to stretch into infinity.
"This place is massive," Wyatt explained, leading the way. "Rumor has it, it’s a few hundred years old, a relic from some ancient tribal leader..."
Mirabella surveyed the seemingly solid stone room, pondering for a moment. "Might as well give it a shot."
Though she'd never bragged about her knack for ancient mechanisms, ever since she'd breezed through the mountain gate at the first base, it was clear she had skills.
Trevor overheard this and looked surprised, glancing between Mirabella and his son, unsure what to say.
James, unfazed and laid-back as ever, quipped, "Your daughter-in-law's got more skills than I do."
Trevor: "..."
