"Luckily, I had my team pull back before causing a stir," the secretary suddenly sighed.
"Hmm?" Murray glanced at him.
The secretary quickly gave a rundown of his team trailing Mirabella. If they'd made a move today and succeeded, it would've been fine. But if they failed, the Davis family could easily trace it back to the Earl's estate, and sending an invitation might tip them off.
"You said she had quite a few bodyguards with her?" Murray asked.
The secretary nodded. "Our intel says the Davis family is keeping a close watch on her."
Murray crossed his arms, a playful smile spreading across his face. "Well, this is intriguing."
With both Asa and James involved, and the Davis family on high alert, this girl must be something special too.
Before long, the secretary was ready to leave. Just as he was about to step out, he hesitated but finally said, "By the way, the prince's condition seems to be getting worse. Shouldn't you start planning ahead, Earl?"
You know what they say, a wise bird picks a strong branch.
"Mind your words," Murray shot the secretary a glance. "What if Lockie's health suddenly improves? Nothing's certain."
The secretary, recalling the situation they'd been monitoring, simply replied, "It's unlikely he'll bounce back. Regardless, it's wise to plan ahead."
Even the top scientists have said his body is at its limit, and not even the best doctors could save him. There's really no 'what if' about it.
"I've got it under control." Murray leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes.
Seeing this, the secretary didn't say another word and left quickly.
Why bother using her hands when her feet could do the trick?
James, used to Mirabella's way of speaking, said resignedly, "Why does it feel like trouble starts brewing the moment I'm not around? Should I just tie you to my side with a rope?"
Mirabella shrugged, pretending to be distressed. "Maybe I'm just naturally drawn to trouble?"
All I want is a quiet life, but life seems to think otherwise.
James straightened up, dropping the joking tone. "Maybe the Earl's estate is targeting me."
Mirabella crossed her legs casually. "That might not be the case, but I doubt things will be calm for a while. Be careful."
