Mirabella lounged on the sofa, smartphone in hand, tapping out a message. Hearing Cassie's words, she just looked up at him, "No, I've been out of the game for years now."
Cassie fell silent for half a minute before finally saying, "Stepping away from it all was indeed the right choice."
Having a top-notch skill isn't always a good thing; the adage about the dangers of possessing a gem comes to mind.
Mirabella paused her typing, caught the meaning in his words, and just smiled, replying, "There will come an end to it someday."
Cassie was momentarily taken aback, and when he looked back at Mirabella, she had already lowered her head again.
After sending her final message, Mirabella put down her phone, "By the way, where's your luggage?"
"At the hotel," Cassie answered honestly.
Mirabella nodded, "Which hotel? I'll have someone pick it up for you. You'll stay here for the next few days."
"Staying here... would that be inconvenient?" Cassie hesitated to ask.
Mirabella raised an eyebrow, "You're my brother; what inconvenience could there be?"
Seeing this, a smile spread across Cassie's face instantly. On his way over, he had wondered if his sister, having a new family now, would still acknowledge him as her brother.
It turned out he was worrying over nothing.
She was still his sister.
Just then, Mirabella's voice carried over again, "After all, you've already paid your rent; can't have you sleeping on the streets."
Cassie: "…"
His heartfelt emotions were misplaced.
A glint of amusement passed through Mirabella's eyes. After asking for Cassie's hotel address, she made a call to Atlas to retrieve the luggage.
"Sis, are you worried about something?" Cassie tilted his head to look at her.
Mirabella snapped back to reality, meeting the young man's clear eyes. She just smiled and changed the subject, "Since the clan leader isn't keeping you on a tight leash anymore, would you like to go to school?"
The mention of schooling reminded Cassie of the years dominated by a room full of Sanskrit scriptures, instantly darkening his expression as he said, "Not really."
Mirabella raised an eyebrow, "I think you do."
Cassie: "…"
"Get some rest. I'll arrange a new identity for you," Mirabella left him with those words and walked out of the room.
Cassie: "…"
He wondered if he had just escaped the tiger's den only to fall into a wolf's den!
