The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella) novel Chapter 1358

Mirabella handed the vial back to Devon, saying, “Chronic toxins are tricky to spot, and by the time you notice, it's usually too late.”

Devon clutched the vial tighter, struggling to believe there was an issue with the medication. His mentor was no novice in medicine, and it seemed impossible that he could have been consuming something harmful for years without realizing it.

But if the medication wasn’t the culprit… why was his mentor’s condition getting worse, even after trying various treatments with no success?

Devon’s mind spun with confusion.

Mirabella noticed Devon wavering between doubt and acceptance. Her eyes wandered for a moment before she softly remarked, “Healers often find it hardest to heal themselves.”

Devon looked at Mirabella, not one to stick stubbornly to his own views. He hesitated before speaking, “So, my mentor… David…”

“David’s been on this medication for too long,” Mirabella explained slowly. “The toxins have spread throughout his system, and his vitality’s been drained too fast. If I’m right, he must’ve taken other meds before he got sick, which triggered the sudden toxin outbreak.”

Devon was unaware of this, and feeling anxious, he turned to the butler who hadn’t left yet, “Uncle White, do you know if my mentor has been taking anything else recently?”

The butler thought for a moment before shaking his head, “I’m not sure. David was so busy with the association’s work before he got sick that he rarely came home.”

After a pause, he added, “I’ll grab the spare meds we have at home so you can check them over.”

With that, the butler rushed out of the room.

Devon turned back to Mirabella, asking quietly, “Since it’s a toxin outbreak, wouldn’t detoxifying or taking an antidote help my mentor?”

After checking them, Mirabella said, “These are fine and wouldn’t harm David’s health.”

Recalling Mirabella’s earlier words, a thought crept into Devon’s mind, “Someone’s deliberately trying to ruin my mentor’s health.”

Mirabella wasn’t privy to the inner workings of the medical association, but given the situation, she didn’t dismiss the idea, simply saying, “Maybe.”

At this point, Devon’s thoughts instinctively turned to Presley, whose ambition and eagerness to rise in status were plain for all to see.

He had every reason to play dirty.
