her.

Quinn swore to herself she had truly only wanted a medical inspection, to gauge how far the brawl with Harlan had gone.

His hands were beautiful–long–fingered, strong, every knuckle etched like the lines of an artist’s drawing. She had noticed them the day they met, and even then, they had struck her as hands built for killing.

The words faltered as her gaze caught on the deep red blooming across his lower ribs. The mark, clearly where Harlan’s fist had landed, was already darkening; by morning, it would be a bruise the size of her palm.

“Turn around. Let me see your back,” Quinn said, sliding back a step to give herself room.

Julius obeyed, pivoting with military neatness.

Quinn studied the broad plane of his back; fresh bruises were flowering there too, shadowed violets against pale skin.

Julius spoke over his shoulder, fingers already brushing the buckle of his belt. “Do you need the trousers off as well?”

“No!” Quinn burst out, cheeks heating as she waved a hand.
