Chapter 574 Empty Palms
He had already fallen for her and could have pursued her sincerely. He could have offered his hand when she was most helpless.
Instead, he did nothing until every feeling she had for him was burned away.
He let out a bitter laugh. “Ha, Weston Windore, what a joke you are.”
Harlan reached the hospital that afternoon.
While away on business, he heard that Quinn had been injured and hospitalized. He abandoned the work in his hands and boarded the earliest flight back to Jexburgh.
The moment he stepped off the plane, he raced straight to the hospital.
Outside Quinn’s room, bodyguards Julius had stationed formed an unbroken wall.
Impatience etched across his face, Harlan barked, “Move aside!”
“Apologies, sir. We must check with Mr. Whitethorn first. Please wait,” one guard replied.
“Oh, I need Julius‘ permission to see my sister? Get lost.”
As the words fell, Harlan drove his foot into the guard who had spoken.
The man staggered back several steps, and the surrounding guards instantly closed in around Harlan.
Harlan let out a furious laugh, tore off his suit jacket, and let it drop to the floor. “Fine. Since roll.” you won’t step back, I’ll beat

He had never, not for a heartbeat, feared a fight.
One nurse made a move toward the confrontation, intent on stepping between the men.
“That’s Mr. Harlan Ingram, Jexburgh’s tyrant. If he’s squaring off against Mr. Whitethorn’s men, barging in is suicide!”
The nurse froze, courage draining from her face.
A split second before the first swing, the door to the ward yawned open from the inside. Julius stepped into the corridor, voice frigid. “Do you plan to wake the patient with all this

shouting?”
“Apologies, Mr. Whitethorn, but Mr. Ingram insists on forcing his way in.”

“Forcing my way?” Harlan let out a low, icy laugh, eyes drilling into Julius. “I’m here to see my sister. Since when does visiting her count as breaking in? Julius, husband or not, you can’t decide whether I see Quinnie.”
Julius answered only by turning away. He eased the door shut, fingertips careful, as though a single whisper might disturb Quinn’s fragile sleep.
“Harlan, do you have to make this much noise? You’ll wake Quinn.”
“If your guards hadn’t blocked me, if my visit didn’t need your approval, I’d have known she was asleep. But since you’re here, great. I want answers. Word is her injuries came from some filthy Whitethorn business. True or not?”
A flicker crossed Julius‘ eyes; if he could trace Sylvia’s hypnosis back to his own father, then Harlan could certainly uncover the same.
Julius simply said, “Yes.”
Bang!
Harlan’s fist snapped forward and crashed against Julius‘ jaw.
Julius didn’t dodge. The blow rocked him backward several steps before a guard rushed in to steady him.
He wiped a streak of blood from his lip. “All of you, stand down. Until I give the word, no one lays a hand on him.”
The guards traded uneasy glances, then withdrew several paces, leaving the corridor’s center clear for the two men.
“That’s your idea of protecting Quinn? I trusted you to keep her safe after she married you, yet because of you, she suffered pain she never should have faced!”
Julius remained still, saying nothing.
“That first punch was for the danger you brought upon her!”
He swung again, fist arcing toward Julius‘ cheek. “And this one is for dragging her into Whitethorn chaos when you knew exactly how dirty it was!”
